Scope and Purpose:

ManhattanLife is seeking Premium Billing Specialists to join our Premiums team. As our new Premium Billing Specialist, you will ensure premium payments are credited to each policyholder's account. As well as being responsible for responding to written inquiries on premium payments, coverage paid to date and billing options.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and respond to billing and receivables.
  • Research and process accounting transactions related to internal or external customer requests.
  • Process accounting transactions on financial subsidiary systems and the general ledger.
  • Provide information and prepare adjusting entries as needed.
  • Communicate discrepancies to policy owners, administrators, field force and internal contacts.
  • Daily processing of incoming wires, providing backup to other areas as needed on wire payments.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with policy owners, list bill administrators, brokers, Master General Agents, field force, and home office staff.
  • Process and manage stale dated checks and premium waivers as directed.
  • Build legally defensible billing and policy files for financial reporting compliance.
  • Scan, document and image completed batches and billing changes.
  • Complete special projects and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Graduate or equivalent (GED); 3 years related work experience in account/system reconciliation and/or accounts payable; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • 10 key by touch.
  • Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Dependable and flexible.
  • Computer literate; demonstrates proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong data and records management skills.

This position may require light travel within a ten-mile radius from one office location to another as needed.
