We are seeking a Medical Billing Associate to join our Financial Services Team.  As a Medical Billing Associate, you are responsible for managing the complete billing cycle for all Buckner Retirement Services Communities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of claims.  Join our team and shine hope in the lives of others!

What You'll Do:

This role is responsible for creating and submitting claim batches, verifying insurance coverage, and obtaining necessary authorizations prior to admission. The Medical Billing Associate reviews coding for accuracy, posts charges and payments, resolves claim rejections, and processes refunds or adjustments.

  • Create and submit claims batches within MyUnity
  • Monitor changes in Medicare regulations and adjust billing practices accordingly.
  • Post charges and payments to correct accounts
  • Review CPT, ICD-10 and modifier coding for accuracy based on clinical documentation
  • Submit electronic claims (EDI) and resolve clearinghouse rejections
  • Identify and resolve credit balance, processing refunds or adjustments when necessary
  • Verification of resident insurance as necessary for accurately billing claims
  • Assist with obtaining any authorization prior to resident being admitted into SNF
  • Escalate complex denial trends and unresolve accounts to the Healthcare Billing manager as necessary
  • Follow billing policies and compliance guidelines, including HIPAA protocols
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Bring To The Team:

  • Understanding and ability to use simple arithmetic and grammar with accuracy.
  • High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) required.
  • Minimum 3 years prior related experience performing medical billing and coding tasks preferred.
  • Proficient working knowledge and ability to accurately and timely operate and perform computer related tasks with specific equipment and software applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook, required.
  • At least one year of experience handling SNF, AL, IL and MC claims across various specialties.
  • Understanding of the ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes and E/M coding guidelines.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid and 3rd party payers.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Requires basic understanding of bookkeeping.
  • May require some travel to assist other communities.
  • Thrives in dynamic environments with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Requires ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Requires proficient ability to exhibit detail-oriented skills necessary to understand and manage a wide range of information.
