Compensation and Benefits:
- Compensation: Starting wage $17.50, adjusted based on experience.
- Benefits: Seasonal position eligible for a season pass for employee/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available.
Job Summary:
The Killington Bike Park is New England's fastest growing downhill mountain bike park and features three high-speed lifts serving over 30 miles of trails. From beginner to expert and classic New England to Gravity Logic's signature flow trails, Killington Bike Park has terrain suitable for everyone. Three unique mountain areas make up our gravity-fueled bike park. Snowshed: Home of our beginner terrain with plenty of intermediate trails to keep you busy once you get the hang of it; Ramshead: Home of our signature freestyle trails and intermediate and advanced terrain for bikers who've graduated from Snowshed; Killington Peak: We've been offering classic New England trails featuring plenty of Technical Terrain that will challenge your ability for over 30 years.
The Bike Park Terrain Attendant works in a utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another, to build and maintain bike trails and features around the mountain.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Spring trail cleanup: removal of downed limbs and other loose debris from trail tread, clearing culverts and ditches from sediment and debris, repairing damaged bridges and other wood features, leaf blowing, raking, shoveling, and picking up litter
- Frequent use of hand tools to shape and maintain dirt features on bike trails (picks, shovels, rakes, pry bars, hand saws, loppers, and other specialty trail-building tools)
- Tree removal (hand saws, picks, and shovels)
- Weed and brush maintenance (gas-powered string trimmers and brush cutters)
- Assist equipment operators with installation of trail features
- Educate guests and other mountain staff on bike trail etiquette and safety
- Monitor trails day to day based on weather conditions and bike traffic
- Report possible codes to Dispatch over the radio; stand by if on scene until support arrives; assist Mountain Patrol as needed
- Assist Mountain Patrol with trail closures and openings
- Assist with events and photo/video shoots, etc. as directed by Supervisor and/or Manager
- Assists guests with wayfinding and trail recommendations as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid US Driver’s License
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work in mountainous terrain: frequent walking/hiking up and down uneven terrain in all weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, sleet, and snow)
- Ability to work in noisy environments (hearing protection provided)
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, and hike with upwards of 50 pounds of tools and equipment, as well as all types of natural debris commonly found in the woods
- This is a strenuous job – ability to bend, kneel, reach, push, pull and stand for long periods of time is required
- Flexibility with scheduling – this position works weekends and holidays
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 1+ years of trail building and maintenance experience
- Ability to mountain bike at an intermediate level
- Basic understanding of mountain biking culture
- Experience operating off-road vehicles such as ATV and SXS
- Knowledge of proper operation of various power tools and other hand-held equipment
- Ability to work efficiently individually and with a team
- Ability to follow specific directions to complete tasks
- Willingness to learn new skills and expand knowledge of trail building and maintenance
- Ability to follow established policies and procedures
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment
