Job description

Horizon Lighting is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Field Estimator to join our growing team. This position is ideal for an experienced professional with a deep understanding of electrical systems, design-build estimating, and field implementation.

You will play a key role in preparing competitive bids, assisting with preconstruction planning, and supporting field operations for a wide range of projects—from routine panel replacements and circuit installations to complex switchgear upgrades and full-service property upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals.
  • Review and interpret electrical plans and specifications.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs and develop labor and material estimates.
  • Perform site visits and field analysis to validate scope and logistics.
  • Collaborate with vendors for pricing and material availability.
  • Create material summaries for vendor quotes and operations teams.
  • Assess labor requirements and timelines using field knowledge.
  • Support project planning, staging, and logistics alongside operations teams.
  • Participate in bid-day summaries, presentations, and procurement processes.
  • Provide value-engineering insights to enhance cost-efficiency.
  • Meet with customers and board members to review and discuss proposals which may require afterhour and/or late afternoon meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Experience specifying equipment and applying electrical installation best practices.
  • Ability to perform basic load calculations and voltage drop analysis.
  • Minimum of 10 years of field experience in the electrical industry.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Ability to make effective presentations to clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to travel to project sites and perform onsite evaluations.
