Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary (FPBS) is a learning community that develops kingdom-minded leaders who equip the church and engage the world with the transformative love Jesus. The seminary gives witness to a biblical theology that is Anabaptist, evangelical, and ecumenical, teaching that the church is called by Jesus Christ to represent God's reign in the world by the power of the Holy Spirit as its community (being), servant (doing) and messenger (telling). FPBS serves churches, para-church organizations, non-profits agencies, counseling centers, and other ministries by preparing pastors, church leaders, biblical scholars, and marriage and family therapy counselors. Graduate degrees are offered online and in person at the main campus of Fresno Pacific University.
Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary is looking for adjunct instructors to join a collaborative faculty team and diverse student body. Seminary faculty members are known for their engagement and transformative work with students and in local communities. Fresno County is ethnically diverse and has several of the deepest pockets of poverty in the United States. The seminary ministry programs prepare students to serve in various pastoral capacities with multicultural groups, engaging people who are at-risk, underserved, or marginalized with the transformative love of Jesus. Seminary ministry faculty serve alongside marriage and family therapy faculty in integrative fashion. Spanish speaking applicants are highly desired.
Essential Functions
Primary adjunct instructor duties include teaching various courses in bible, theology, ministry, and practical application studies. Significant pastoral and/or biblical literature exegetical expertise and the ability to practically apply such experience within course material is desired. Lecture development, experiential application assignment creation, student assessment, and ability to navigate university learning management systems required.
Role:
  • Adjunct instructor working collaboratively within Seminary department to teach graduate-level course(s)
  • Teach courses as described and assigned
  • Syllabus development, lecture development and delivery, textbook(s) chosen and submitted to university bookstore, student assessment and grading, university student attendance recording procedure compliance, timely grade submission, and adherence to university procedures and policies requiredโ€ข
  • Competent navigation of university learning management system
  • Discuss class progress with the program coordinator, including teaching performance through observation
  • Collaborate with other faculty as needed
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving and inspiring students in an academic context that integrates your Christian faith and learning.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Earned master's degree or terminal degree in bible, ministry, theology or related field of study
  • Evidence of significant ministry, missions, or pastoral experience
  • Experience in working with diverse populations in community-based settings
  • Evidence of strong communication skills
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and faculty in a collegial environment
  • Evidence or capacity for entrepreneurial initiative
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the University's mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church
Preferred:
  • Ph.D., D.Min, or other terminal degree in bible, ministry, theology or related discipline
  • Graduate teaching experience
  • Ability to teach or communicate in Spanish and/or Hmong languages
Environmental Conditions:
  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
Physical Demands:
  • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such ascalculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
