Removal Defense Immigration Attorney

Manhattan, NY โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 9 hours ago

Job description

We are a high-volume immigration law firm headquartered in New York City, known for taking on complex deportation and family-based immigration matters across all 50 states. Our team is built on deep legal experience, a passion for helping immigrants, and a culture of continuous learning and collaboration. We offer a fast-paced, supportive environment where immigration attorneys can sharpen their courtroom skills, expand their knowledge, and make a lasting difference.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned Removal Defense Immigration Attorney with strong experience representing noncitizens in immigration court. The ideal candidate has successfully handled master calendar hearings, individual hearings, motions to reopen and terminate, and BIA appeals. Experience with asylum, cancellation of removal, waivers, and complex inadmissibility issues is required. Federal litigation experience is a plus but not required.

This is a litigation-heavy role, ideal for someone who thrives in court and wants to build on a solid foundation of removal defense and family-based immigration experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before EOIR, including master calendar and individual hearings.
  • Prepare and file motions, applications for relief, and legal briefs (including cancellation of removal, asylum, withholding, CAT, and waivers).
  • Handle appeals to the BIA and, if qualified, to federal courts.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients facing deportation and complex legal challenges.
  • Manage filings and appearances with USCIS, EOIR, ICE, and the BIA.
  • Collaborate with intake, paralegals, and fellow attorneys to develop strategies and ensure timely filings.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience practicing immigration law, with substantial courtroom experience.
  • Demonstrated success handling master and individual hearings, particularly in asylum, cancellation of removal, and waivers.
  • Strong legal writing skills and the ability to think on your feet in high-stakes situations.
  • Knowledge of family-based immigration matters such as I-130s, adjustment of status, and consular processing.
  • BIA and federal court experience a plus.
  • Licensed to practice law in any U.S. state; New York Bar preferred.

Join a team that values experience, drive, and results-where your work in the courtroom changes lives.
