Role Overview
The Developer / Programmer Analyst designs, develops, tests, and maintains front-end data pipelines and business intelligence assets supporting Power BI dashboards for a state education agency. This position utilizes SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SAS, and MySQL to manage data feeds, model data, and ensure seamless dashboard updates. Additionally, the developer serves on a dashboard governance committee to evaluate feasibility, estimate delivery timelines, and author deployment instructions for test and production environments.
Key Responsibilities

Power BI & Business Intelligence Engineering
• Develop, maintain, and update front-end data processes and pipelines feeding into enterprise Power BI dashboards.
• Manage, configure, and troubleshoot Power BI Data Gateways and data source connections.
• Build, maintain, and optimize data integration packages using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and tabular models using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
• Query, extract, and transform datasets across MySQL, SAS (Statistical Analysis System), and relational database platforms.
Deployment, Governance, & Infrastructure
• Serve on a dashboard governance committee, reviewing proposed dashboard updates and providing technical feasibility assessments and effort estimates.
• Author comprehensive deployment instructions and release packages for moving code changes into test and production environments.
• Provide technical consultation and assistance for infrastructure migrations, system updates, and database maintenance.
• Troubleshoot data display, latency, and availability issues across BI dashboards and underlying data feeds.
Requirements Gathering & Technical Documentation
• Consult with agency stakeholders and business analysts to clarify program objectives, analyze current operating procedures, and gather requirements.
• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, system specifications, data dictionary definitions, and deployment guides.
Required Qualifications
• 10 or more years of experience developing, configuring, and optimizing Power BI dashboards and reports.
• 5 or more years of experience managing Power BI Data Gateways, refresh schedules, and dataset connections.
• 5 or more years of experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL development.
• 5 or more years of experience with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) for data modeling.
• 5 or more years of experience querying and managing data within MySQL database environments.
• 5 or more years of experience using SAS (Statistical Analysis System) for data manipulation and analysis.
• 5 or more years of experience creating technical documentation, deployment guides, and system runbooks.
• 3 or more years of experience working with the Ed-Fi Data Standard.
• 3 or more years of experience working with the Educator Preparation Data Model (EPDM).
