Senior Business Intelligence Engineer
Location: Irving, TX (Onsite 5 Days/Week)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (3–6 Months)

Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to lead the development of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions that empower business leaders to make informed, data-driven decisions. This individual will be responsible for designing intuitive dashboards, semantic models, and reporting solutions with a primary focus on Power BI.
The ideal candidate combines strong reporting and visualization expertise with solid SQL skills and a deep understanding of how data is structured behind the scenes. While this role is not focused on building data pipelines or data warehouse architecture, the successful candidate must be comfortable working with complex datasets, understanding SQL logic, and collaborating closely with data engineering teams to deliver accurate, scalable reporting solutions.
This role will play a key part in improving reporting capabilities across the organization while establishing best practices for visualization, usability, performance, and governance.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise reporting solutions using Power BI.
  • Create intuitive dashboards, scorecards, and visualizations that support operational and executive decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain semantic models, datasets, measures, and calculated fields.
  • Build and optimize DAX calculations and reporting logic.
  • Develop and support SSRS reports and legacy reporting solutions.
  • Design and maintain Tableau dashboards to support broader enterprise reporting initiatives.
  • Write and modify SQL queries to support reporting requirements, data validation, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Partner closely with data engineering teams to ensure reporting data structures support business requirements.
  • Translate business needs into meaningful visualizations and actionable insights.
  • Optimize report performance through efficient model design, aggregations, query optimization, and best practices.
  • Implement row-level security and governance standards across reporting platforms.
  • Promote best practices around data visualization, user experience, report usability, and dashboard design.
  • Provide guidance and support to business users consuming reporting solutions.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience developing enterprise reporting and business intelligence solutions.
  • Advanced expertise in Power BI, including:
    • Semantic models
    • Datasets
    • DAX development
    • Performance optimization
    • Workspace administration
    • Security and governance
  • Strong SQL skills with the ability to:
    • Write complex joins
    • Create aggregations
    • Utilize CTEs and subqueries
    • Validate and troubleshoot reporting data
  • Experience developing and supporting SSRS reports.
  • Experience building dashboards and visualizations in Tableau.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization principles and dashboard design best practices.
  • Experience translating business requirements into reporting solutions and executive-level insights.

  • Experience supporting large enterprise reporting environments.
  • Familiarity with Azure SQL, SQL Server, and modern cloud-based data platforms.
