Job Description:

This position is responsible for the strategic leadership, direction, and financial oversight of Onni Group's Corporate Accounting function. Based in Onni's Corporate Office in Phoenix, the VP of Accounting will not only lead the Corporate Accounting team and their independent responsibilities, but also be involved in the evolution of the current financial reporting across the organization's multifamily, commercial, hospitality, and food & beverage portfolios.This role requires a strong technical accounting foundation combined with a forward-looking mindset toward the future of the accounting function. The VP of Accounting will champion the adoption of higher-powered computing, automation, and data-driven processes; partnering with Enterprise Systems, IT, and operational leaders to modernize close cycles, reporting, and controls, and to position the accounting organization to take full advantage of emerging technology and AI-enabled tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead and develop the Corporate Accounting team from Onni's Corporate Office in Phoenix, setting the vision, standards, and performance culture for the department
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring the timely and accurate uniformity of financial results across all business lines and entities
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and audit readiness across the organization and develop a system to maintain these policies and controls
  • Champion the evaluation and adoption of higher-powered computing, automation, and AI-enabled tools to modernize the close cycle, reporting, and financial controls
  • Partner with Enterprise Systems and IT to optimize the use of Yardi Voyager, Power BI, and Azure Data Lake for financial reporting and analytics
  • Lead process re-engineering initiatives that reduce manual effort and increase the speed, scalability, and accuracy of accounting operations
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners
  • Mentor, develop, and build bench strength within the accounting organization, preparing future leaders for growth

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role; real estate, multifamily, or hospitality industry experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; strong technical GAAP knowledge and financial reporting expertise
  • Proven ability to lead and develop accounting processes within a company, partnering effectively with the finance and operational executive leadership
  • Demonstrated aptitude and enthusiasm for advancing accounting operations through automation, data analytics, and emerging technology (e.g., Power BI, SQL, Azure Data Lake, AI-enabled tools)
