How much do beta testing jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 13, 2026, the average hourly pay for beta testing in Florida is $31.03, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $23.89 and $36.63 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do you become a beta tester?

To become a beta tester, you typically sign up through the company's website or beta testing platforms, providing basic information about your device and usage habits. Some roles may require technical skills or familiarity with testing tools, and testers often need to follow specific instructions and provide feedback during the testing period.

What Is Beta Testing?

Beta testing is the second phase of testing software like apps or video games, and it focuses on the feedback and acceptance from a sample of end-users. The software may go through several rounds of beta testing as companies prepare it for the final release. As a beta tester, your job is to test the product in a way explained by the developers. This involves checking for errors, reporting any errors that are found, providing an opinion on the content, and otherwise checking to see if the software works as intended. Companies perform beta tests in a variety of ways, and the type of beta test being run actively influences your role in the process.

What is the difference between Beta Testing vs Quality Assurance Tester?

AspectBeta TestingQuality Assurance Tester
Primary FocusEnd-user testing to identify issues before releaseSystematic testing to ensure product quality and compliance
Work EnvironmentReal-world user environment, often involving external testersControlled testing environments within development teams
Required SkillsBasic technical knowledge, communication skills, user feedbackTesting methodologies, attention to detail, scripting skills
Industry UsageSoftware, gaming, app developmentSoftware development, hardware, systems engineering

While both roles focus on testing, Beta Testing involves real users identifying issues before product launch, whereas Quality Assurance Testers conduct systematic, internal testing to ensure quality standards are met throughout development.

Is BetaTesting legit?

Beta Testing as a job involves evaluating products or software before public release, often requiring skills in testing tools and reporting bugs. It is a legitimate role in the tech industry, but job seekers should verify the company's reputation and avoid scams that request upfront payments or personal information.

Is beta testing a good career?

Beta testing is a role that involves evaluating software or products before release to identify bugs and improve quality. It can be a good entry point into the tech industry, requiring attention to detail and familiarity with testing tools, but it often offers limited long-term career growth without additional skills or certifications. Many beta testers transition into quality assurance or software development roles over time.

How much do beta testers get paid?

Beta testers typically earn between $10 and $20 per hour, depending on the company and project complexity. Some beta testing roles are paid per test or session, while others may be unpaid or offer incentives like gift cards. Payment varies based on experience, the testing platform, and the scope of testing required.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Beta Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Beta Tester, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of software or hardware products, often supported by experience in quality assurance or product testing. Familiarity with bug tracking tools, test case management systems, and common operating systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to provide clear, constructive feedback are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure effective identification and reporting of issues, ultimately helping to improve product quality before public release.

What are some common challenges faced by beta testers, and how can they effectively communicate issues to the development team?

Beta testers often encounter challenges such as unclear bug reproduction steps, incomplete documentation, or rapidly changing software builds. To overcome these, it's important to provide detailed, structured feedback—describing the issue, steps to reproduce, environment details, and potential impact. Effective testers also use bug-tracking tools and maintain open communication with developers, ensuring that their insights lead to actionable improvements before product launch.

What are beta testers?

Beta testers are individuals or groups who use a product, such as software or hardware, before its official release to the public. Their main role is to identify bugs, usability issues, and provide feedback to the development team. Beta testing helps ensure that the product is stable, user-friendly, and meets the needs of its target audience. The feedback from beta testers is invaluable in improving the final version of the product.

Job description

We are Subway Headquarters! A dedicated team of professionals supporting thousands of franchisees around the globe.

Sr. Software Engineer - Mobile App Shelton, CT

Ready to build what’s next with one of the world’s most iconic brands?

Why Join Subway?
At Subway, we are not standing still. We are building.

This is a business focused on what matters most: growing franchisee profitability, strengthening our brand and creating long-term value. The people who thrive here are the ones who want to make a real impact.

You will not just do the work. You will shape it.

We move fast. We think like owners. We make decisions that matter. We hold ourselves to a high standard because what we do directly impacts thousands of franchisees around the world.

If you bring energy, accountability and a bias for action, you will fit right in.
We take the work seriously, but we also know the best results come from teams that support each other, celebrate wins and show up ready to build something better every day.
This is your chance to be part of what’s next.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for an experienced mobile engineer to help build and improve the Subway app on iOS and Android — the app millions of guests use to order food, manage their loyalty rewards, find nearby restaurants, and check out with their preferred payment method.

You'll work in a collaborative product team alongside designers, product managers, and other engineers, shipping features that are fast, reliable, and polished. App performance is a core priority: every change is expected to maintain or improve speed metrics we track rigorously.

TECH AT A GLANCE

Our mobile stack in plain terms:

Framework

React Native (cross-platform iOS & Android) + Expo

Language

TypeScript (strict mode) — strongly typed throughout

State Management

Redux Toolkit for app-wide state; MMKV for fast local storage

Navigation

React Navigation

Payments

Adyen, Apple Pay, Google Pay

Auth

AWS Cognito (token-based login/session management)

Testing

Jest, React Native Testing Library, Maestro (end-to-end)

CI/CD

GitHub Actions, Expo Application Services (EAS), Fastlane

Error Tracking

Sentry

Feature Flags

LaunchDarkly (controls which features are live for which users)

Analytics

Adobe Experience Platform, Quantum Metric

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Build and maintain app features across the full stack of the mobile experience — ordering, menu, cart, checkout, payments, loyalty, and store locator.
  • Write clean, well-tested TypeScript following our established coding standards, with automated checks (linting, formatting, architectural boundary rules) running on every commit.
  • Connect the app to backend services and third-party tools: our ordering API, authentication, payment processors, fraud detection, feature flags, and analytics.
  • Work with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to turn requirements into working software — joining sprint planning and reviews, implementing against Figma designs, aligning on API contracts.
  • Review code from teammates and incorporate review feedback on your own pull requests; all PRs go through CI checks and peer review before merging (no direct pushes to main).
  • Debug and fix issues on both iOS and Android using crash reporting tools, native logs, and device/simulator builds.
  • Write and maintain tests — unit, component, performance (we track render and time-to-interactive budgets), and end-to-end flows tested on real devices via BrowserStack.
  • Help keep our build and release pipelines healthy: automated builds, beta testing distributions, and production releases to the App Store and Google Play.
  • Document your work — code comments, architecture decision records, and notes in our project management system.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies: standups, sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Stay current with the React Native ecosystem and contribute to team-wide improvements, including our ongoing migration to the React Native New Architecture (better performance and native integration).

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required:

  • 6–9 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong commercial experience building cross-platform mobile apps with React Native and TypeScript.
  • Solid understanding of React Native architecture: state management (Redux), navigation, performance optimization, and local storage.
  • Experience calling REST APIs and working with token-based authentication flows.
  • Familiarity with the native side of React Native — iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin/Java) builds, native modules — or genuine enthusiasm to learn.
  • Practical experience with mobile testing: unit tests, component tests, and end-to-end flows.
  • Experience shipping apps to the App Store and/or Google Play.
  • Clear communicator who works well in a collaborative, cross-functional team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.

Nice to have:

  • Payment integrations (Adyen, Apple Pay, Google Pay).
  • Feature flag systems (e.g., LaunchDarkly).
  • Mobile analytics or error tracking (Sentry, Adobe Experience Platform, Quantum Metric).
  • CI/CD for mobile: GitHub Actions, Expo EAS, Fastlane, BrowserStack.
  • Internationalization (i18n) and multi-language app support.
  • Privacy and consent frameworks (e.g., OneTrust).
  • SSL/certificate pinning for mobile API security.

HOW WE WORK

We use Agile delivery in two-week sprints, tracked in Azure DevOps. Design specs come from Figma. Architecture decisions and technical docs live alongside the code in the repository. We value code quality, thoughtful review, and incremental improvement over big-bang rewrites.

Pull requests go through automated CI checks (tests, linting, build validation) and at least one peer review before merging. We treat the CI pipeline as a quality gate, not a formality.

What do we offer?
•    Insurance Plans (Medical, Life)
•    Pension/401K/RSP (country specific)
•    Competitive Bonus
•    Mobility Allowance
•    Tuition Reimbursement
•    Company Holidays
•    Volunteering time
•    And More…..

Compensation: The base pay range for this role is $119,200 - $149,000 annually

Pay within this range will be determined in good faith based on job-related factors, which may include skills, experience, education/training, location, and internal equity.

The Company is only considering applicants who are currently authorized to work in the country the position is based. AA/EOE/D/V
