Support verification planning and execution for the Low Voltageย (LV)ย Electrical System on BETA's electricย aircraft. The LV System converts energy from high-voltageย (HV)ย packs into 28 VDC buses powering avionics, flight controls, and auxiliary devices. You will work closely with the Lead Verification Engineerย for the systemย to develop and run ARP4754A requirements-based tests and produce certification-ready artifacts as BETA advances toward Type Certification.ย
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Execute LV system/component verification per the defined test strategyย
- Plan, author, and run requirements-based test plans, procedures, and cases (system andย component)ย
- Build andย maintainย test racks/fixtures and HIL/SIL benches; manage instrumentation and calibration checksย
- Develop automated test scripts and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or Pythonย
- Maintain requirements traceability and coverage; support independence assessments to ARP4754A objectivesย
- Support DO-160G verification/qualification and external lab activitiesย
- Participate in test witnessing, anomaly triage, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysisย
- Coordinate with Engineering, Systems, Flight Test, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Safety, suppliers, and labsย
- Prepare clear, auditable test documentation and contribute to certification deliverablesย
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering or equivalent hands-on test experience (internships/co-ops welcome)ย
- Knowledge of electrical fundamentalsย
- Experience with automated testing and data acquisition/analysis (MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python) preferred, but notย requiredย
- Ability to document test environments, procedures, and results with high attention to detailย
- Proficiencyย with common test equipment:ย oscilloscopes,ย signal generators,ย power supplies/eLoads, DAQ, thermocouples, etc.ย
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skillsย
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
- 1-4+ years in test engineering orย aircraftย certification/verificationย
- Understanding of test environment management, calibration standards, and quality systemsย
- Exposure to ARP4754A; familiarity with DO-178C or DO-254ย
- Experience with DO-160G testing (EMI/EMC, power input/quality, lightning/pin injection)ย
- HIL platforms (NI PXI/DAQ,ย or other industry standard equipment) and automated test frameworksย
- Familiarity with serial bus protocols: CAN/CAN-FD, ARINC 429, RS-422/485, RS-232ย
- Familiarity with requirements managementย softwareย (Polarionย preferred)ย
- Version controlย withย Gitย orย SVNย
- Familiarity with workflowย managementย toolsย including or like JIRAย
- Familiarity with CATIA/3DXย
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Onsite at BETA facilities in South Burlington (and occasionally St. Albans), Vermont; ability to travel locally between sitesย
- Hands-on work around HV/LV electrical systems following strict safety and LOTO proceduresย
- Occasional outdoor testing, night testing, or atypical schedules based on program needsย
- Dog-friendly, open-office environmentย
