GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Election Hiring Assistant is a temporary/seasonal position responsible for assisting with the hiring and onboarding of other temporary election judges as well as assisting with video trainings. It requires gaining an understanding of the overall election process in Arapahoe County with an emphasis on supporting the Election Community Services team prepare for an election. This position can expect to work up to 20-25 hours per week on an as needed basis. Receives immediate supervision from the Election Outreach Administrator. May receive supervision from additional members of the Community Services team.

DUTIES:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the election process and tasks performed by election judges.

  • Assist the Elections Outreach Administrator with onboarding preparations.

  • Assist the Elections Outreach Administrator with maintaining the election judge database.

  • Assist the Elections Outreach Administrator with coordinating/scheduling interviews of election judges.

  • Assist the Elections Outreach Administrator with hiring paperwork.

  • Assist with editing election judge training videos

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Ability to quickly learn the elections process, election judge database and hiring systems.

  • Ability to communicate with temporary election judges and voting public effectively, professionally and diplomatically, and follow the direction of Elections staff.

  • Proficiency with general office equipment and software including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to confidently and effectively interact with a group of people.

  • Ability to use personal mobile phone for daily communication

  • Ability to multi-task calmly and adapt to changing environments.

  • Ability to adhere to a dependable schedule, which may include overtime or weekends.

  • Ability to maintain positive, professional demeanor.

  • Ability to follow instructions from Elections staff and share information.

  • Ability to organize and share information and documentation.

  • Ability to accept responsibility for own actions and work product.

Education and Experience:

  • High School or GED required

  • Experience hiring/screening applicants

  • Experience working in Voter Service and Polling Centers preferred.

  • Experience editing and preparing training videos preferred.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally confined to a standard office environment. Frequent time will also be spent at the Arapahoe County Warehouse for trainings and work related items.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.

  • Spends 50% of the time sitting and 50% of the time either standing or walking.

  • Frequently lifts, carries, pulls, or pushed up to 25 lbs.

  • Frequently uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 50 pounds.

  • Frequently climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches.

  • Frequently twists back to transfer large amounts of envelopes between holders and machinery.

  • Constantly grabs large amount of envelopes in hands for long periods of time.

  • Constantly use eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of machinery or equipment.
