Job Purpose
As a Solutions Engineer - BESS at EnerSys, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our entry into the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market. You will lead technical solution design, economic modeling, and deployment support across industrial, commercial, telecom, and motive power markets. This role bridges commercial strategy with engineering execution, enabling EnerSys to deliver intelligent, resilient, and cost-effective energy solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Solution Development
  • Design customized BESS systems integrating battery technology, inverters, EMS, and grid/telco interfaces.
  • Develop energy system configurations that optimize performance, reliability, and return on investment.
  • Conduct load analysis, site assessments, and grid interconnection planning.
  • Ensure all solutions are compliant with applicable standards (NEC, UL9540/9540A, NFPA, etc.).

Economic and Performance Modeling
  • Lead economic analysis using modeling tools such as Energy Toolbase, HOMER Grid, and Stem Athena (or equivalent platforms).
  • Simulate customer load profiles, rate structures, and system behavior for peak shaving, time-of-use shifting, demand response, and backup scenarios.
  • Create ROI models, payback period forecasts, and total cost of ownership evaluations.
  • Communicate financial outcomes clearly to both technical and executive stakeholders.

Sales and Customer Engagement
  • Support Business Development Managers during the sales process as the technical subject matter expert.
  • Deliver compelling technical and financial presentations to customers, EPCs, and channel partners.
  • Respond to RFPs and coordinate with internal engineering, supply chain, and compliance teams.

Field Deployment & Support
  • Provide engineering oversight during commissioning and integration.
  • Partner with Field Services to troubleshoot, validate, and optimize system performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives based on project feedback.

Strategic Enablement
  • Provide structured feedback to product managers and engineering on solution gaps and customer needs.
  • Help build internal tools, training content, and solution templates to scale field adoption.
  • Monitor BESS market trends and competitor offerings.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Power Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing or deploying energy systems, with emphasis on energy storage, power electronics, or microgrid applications.
  • Direct experience using modeling tools such as Energy Toolbase, HOMER Grid, STEM Athena, or Geli ESyst.
