What is behaviour change?

Behaviour change refers to the process of helping individuals, groups, or communities alter their habits, attitudes, or actions. A behaviour change specialist designs and implements strategies to encourage positive behaviours, such as improving health, increasing safety, or adopting sustainable practices. They use techniques from psychology, social science, and communication to identify barriers and motivators, tailoring interventions to specific audiences. Their work is common in public health, environmental campaigns, and organizational change initiatives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a behaviour change specialist?

To thrive as a Behaviour Change Specialist, you need a solid grounding in psychology, behavioural science, and data analysis, often supported by a relevant degree or certification in behavioural science or public health. Familiarity with behaviour change frameworks (like COM-B, TDF), survey tools, and data analytics platforms is typically required. Strong communication, empathy, and motivational interviewing skills help build rapport and effectively guide individuals or groups through change. These skills are crucial for designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions that drive sustainable behaviour change.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in behaviour change roles, and how can they be addressed?

Behaviour Change professionals often encounter challenges such as resistance to change, difficulty in sustaining long-term engagement, and communicating effectively with diverse audiences. To address these, it's important to use evidence-based strategies, tailor interventions to specific populations, and foster strong relationships with stakeholders. Regular monitoring, feedback loops, and adapting approaches based on data can help improve outcomes and maintain motivation within target groups.

Job description

Talent & Organization, Organization Change Senior Manager - Energy Industry
We Are
Accenture's Talent Reinvention Partner and we're helping clients reinvent how people and organizations work-delivering leadership, talent, operating models, workforce intelligence, and change solutions to accelerate the workforce agenda in the age of AI.
We develop forward-thinking leaders who can lead effectively in an AI-augmented workplace and navigate change with confidence. Our team is at the forefront of talent, HR, and organizational consulting, supporting clients across AI-enabled skilling and reskilling, talent strategy, leadership development, employee experience, and change management
You Are
An experienced change leader who understands that work has fundamentally changed. Digital, data, and Generative AI are no longer emerging capabilities - they are part of the everyday fabric of how work gets done, decisions are made, and value is created.
You have led complex transformations in environments where people work alongside advanced digital tools, and you know how this shifts roles, skills, ways of working, and expectations of leadership. You bring a clear point of view on how to design and lead change when speed, scale, and continuous adaptation are the norm, and where human judgment, accountability, and trust remain essential.
You use data, analytics, and AI-enabled insights to inform decisions and guide action, while applying experience and judgment to interpret what the data cannot. You are comfortable using Generative AI to accelerate analysis, design, and delivery, and you take responsibility for the quality, ethics, and impact of the outcomes.
Clients and teammates look to you not just to "manage change," but to help them operate and lead effectively in human + digital teams. You model how AI is used in the flow of work, coach others to build confidence and capability, and help teams deliver high-impact change in environments of continuous reinvention.
The Work
You will help clients reinvent how their organizations operate in an AI-enabled, data-informed world where work is digital by default, change is continuous, and people work alongside advanced tools to deliver outcomes at speed and scale.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Support clients through large-scale reinvention efforts, including reimagining work, workforce models, and human-centered experiences in environments shaped by data, automation, and Generative AI
  • Lead and design enterprise change programs, helping clients execute and sustain change in contexts where ways of working, roles, and skills are evolving rapidly alongside advances in technology and AI
  • Partner with clients to define and enable how GenAI is used across the organization, addressing readiness, skills shifts, workforce impacts, and responsible use while reinforcing clear human accountability and governance.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data, analytics, and AI-enabled insights to assess readiness, track adoption and behavior change, and inform decisions and course correction.
  • Design agile, future-ready change strategies that enable new ways of working, including operating models where humans and digital tools work together seamlessly.
  • Apply human-centered design principles to co-create change solutions and personalized change journeys that can be scaled through digital and AI-enabled approaches Use Generative AI thoughtfully to accelerate change delivery, such as developing, testing, and tailoring engagement content, learning assets, and manager enablement, while remaining accountable for quality, tone, and impact
  • Help clients build lasting, scalable change capabilities so they can continuously adapt as technologies, business models and ways of working evolve.
  • Contribute to Accenture business development through proposals, storytelling, and building trusted client relationships.
  • Be willing to travel as needed to support clients.

Here's What You Need
  • Minimum of 8 years' Organization Change Management experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a consulting practitioner.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working on technology-enabled or digital transformation initiatives (GenAI exposure preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Energy industry

Bonus Points If You Have
  • Applied experience using Generative AI (GenAI) to deliver organizational change work, including:
    • Using GenAI-supported analytics and insights to understand workforce dynamics, readiness, adoption, sentiment, and behavior change
    • Generating, testing, and tailoring communications and manager enablement content at speed and scale
    • Supporting GenAI-enabled learning, reskilling, and knowledge sharing within organizations
    • Enabling responsible GenAI adoption through clear change approaches, governance, and human accountability
  • Experience leading or working in human + digital teams, where Generative AI is actively used to analyze information, generate content, and support decision-making-while ownership, judgment, and accountability remain clearly human
  • Experience designing, implementing, and scaling HR and Talent processes (e.g., workforce planning, learning, performance, skills) in technology-enabled environments
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled HR and workforce tools, including workforce analytics, skills platforms, automation, and future workforce design
  • A demonstrated commitment to staying current on the capabilities, limitations, risks, and governance of emerging technologies-and translating them into practical, ethical, and sustainable ways of working for clients.
