A behavioral health consultant works with patients to address and improve behavior issues. As a specialist in this field, your duties include assessing each patient’s mental health and developmental needs and creating a treatment plan to reduce negative behavior and promote positive choices. As the patient progresses, you determine a patient’s response to treatment and make adjustments if necessary. You can work in a variety of settings. Some behavioral health consultants work in schools, public health facilities, mental health clinics, or hospitals, or you may work in a private medical or psychology practice to provide complete patient care and plan behavioral health intervention in conjunction with other treatments.
