Job Summary
We are currently seeking an experienced Director, Business Development Leader to champion and execute the growth of our military health business for our Health Business Unit (BU). We are seeking a candidate with extensive experience and a successful track record of leading and executing the full lifecycle of business development, with a strong emphasis on client engagement, new lead identification, and opportunity qualification. You will leverage deep government contracting expertise and business development acumen to position Battelle as a trusted provider of innovative solutions to advance military health priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Pipeline : Manage billion-dollar pipeline with goals related to awards, submits, assessing and qualified pipeline for military health. Maximize Pwin for top opportunities. Drive volume, velocity, variety, veracity, and value of pipeline by identifying, qualifying, capturing, and submitting high-quality, well-positioned, high-pwin opportunities aligned to the Health BU strategy.
  • Client : Develop and maintain relevant and influential relationships with technical, business, and acquisition government clients. Implement best practices for client organization mapping, call plan development, and targeted client conversations. Lead the full-cycle process for all relevant client engagements in Military Health portfolio, including research and preparation, key messaging, content development, meeting logistics, outbriefs, and action item ownership. , Support military health conferences, including calendar management, pre-event preparations, conference attendance and client engagement, coordination with Health BU participants, and leading debriefs and action item development.
  • Strategy : Partner with Health BU in strategy development to ensure market and client relevance on an ongoing basis. Evangelize voice-of-customer by identifying and developing new and adjacent markets and clients. Maintain awareness of and communicate changes in the competitive landscape.
  • Process : Prepare and present opportunity overviews, gate reviews, capture reviews, market assessments, and client account plans. Manage and utilize the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool (Microsoft Dynamics 365) to ensure quality of pipeline data and transparency of deal maturation. Utilize Microsoft PowerBI as an additional mechanism to quantitatively track pipeline progress. Prepare and deliver standard military health account plan, as well as ad-hoc reports in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint to leadership and senior executives, on an as-needed basis to support effective business.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, or a related technical field
  • 10 or more years of related experience in Department of War (DoW), military health, and/or government contracting business development.
  • Existing network of clients in relevant government agencies and the ability to immediately leverage relationships to identify and pursue strategically aligned new business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate, and partner with BU partners.
  • Experience and knowledge of government acquisition procedures and timelines.
  • Proven track record winning opportunities with government clients.
  • Competitor knowledge in the military health market space.
  • Proven track record managing a billion-dollar pipeline of opportunities ranging in size from $5M to $500M+.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Up to 40% travel required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher.
  • Capture and/or technical subject matter expertise to help identify and create science and technology (S&T) programs within military health market spaces.

Compensation Data
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $170,000 to $240,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
