About the Job
General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Behavioral Health Technician to join our team at Montgomery Medical Center!
As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will help provide direct and indirect patient care according to established procedures. Provides care for, primarily but not limited to, behavioral health adult, geriatric, and pediatric populations, under the direction and supervision of an RN (Registered Nurse).

Primary Duties:
  • Performs basic, routine, and specialized tasks in assigned departments, supervised by a registered nurse. Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each patient in the delivery of services to them. Recognizes early signs of escalation. Demonstrates the ability to de-escalate patients as needed. Demonstrates the ability to intervene appropriately with a variety of behavioral health patients. Observes, monitors, and reports changes in patient's condition, symptoms, reactions, or behavior as appropriate. Rounds on all assigned patients based on established standards. Provides nourishments as requested and authorized by orders including distribution and collection of meal trays as needed. Transports patients and transfers patients between stretcher and bed/chair and for testing. Performs phlebotomy and vital signs. Participates in shift report, reports observations, and unusual happenings to RN.

  • Maintains a clean, safe, prepared work environment. Prepares patient areas for admissions. Cleans patient care equipment as needed, or as assigned. Maintains orderliness of the nursing station/unit at the end of each shift. Restocks as needed and checks par levels. Distributes supplies to designated storage areas when they are delivered to the unit.

  • Observes patient activities and collects patient data documenting the medical record in a timely, accurate and concise manner. Observes and monitors patients and documents observations in the medical record. Informs the nurse in the CEU or Charge Nurse of any findings or changes in the patient's behavior. Documents activities and patient care. Assures that documentation is accurate.

  • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Practices within legal boundaries of applicable scope of practice and according to hospital policy and procedures. Identifies learning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs. Attends continuing education programs to maintain licensure. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted time for completion (CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation), License, PPD)

  • Works effectively within and between departments Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as appropriate. Provides department/unit with information and knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit. Department/Unit Specific Functions and Duties Consistently displays professionalism in interactions with patients, families, staff, and physicians. Maintains flexibility with schedule to meet departmental needs. Management of the Violent Patient Proficient in the use of Breathalyzer

Qualifications:
  • Associate degree OR 2 years' experience in the mental health/addictions field.

  • Minimum 6 months equivalent experience in hospital/behavioral health setting for those with an Associate's degree.

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
