Description
The Department of Housing & Residence Life is accepting applications for its Coordinator of Student Conduct and Behavioral Intervention position. The Coordinator of Student Conduct and Behavioral Intervention provides advanced operational leadership for the residential conduct system and student behavioral intervention processes within Housing & Residence Life. This position independently manages conduct case workflows from intake through resolution, ensures compliance with institutional policy, supports crisis response coordination, and serves as a primary liaison between Housing & Residence Life, the Dean of Students Office, Title IX and Public Safety.
The role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the conduct process, developing behavioral intervention strategies, training Housing staff on compliance and documentation standards, advising student leadership organizations, and supporting retention-focused student success initiatives. The position plays a critical role in reducing institutional risk, improving student accountability, and enhancing residential community standards.
Examples of Duties
Primary Responsibilities:
Conduct Administration, Case Management & Adjudication Support
- Serve as primary administrator for residential conduct case management, overseeing intake, documentation review, case assignment, resolution tracking, and closure.
- Conduct thorough review of incident reports submitted by Housing staff to ensure accuracy, policy alignment, and appropriate escalation.
- Apply institutional policies to determine case outcomes, recommend sanctions, and ensure consistent adjudication practices across all residential communities.
- Maintain detailed case records using conduct management systems, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with institutional standards.
- Identify repeat behavioral patterns and escalate high-risk cases to appropriate campus partners or behavioral intervention teams.
- Develop and refine conduct workflows, sanctioning guidelines, and educational accountability frameworks.
Behavioral Intervention, Crisis Response & Case Coordination
- Serve as a designated coordinator for behavioral intervention and crisis response within Housing & Residence Life.
- Respond to student behavioral concerns including mental health crises, disruptive conduct, welfare concerns, and safety threats.
- Coordinate with Counseling Services, Dean of Students Office, Title IX. and Public Safety during active or escalating incidents.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours consultation, escalation support, and emergency coordination.
- Facilitate post-crisis follow-up, including student check-ins, referrals, and ongoing case monitoring. Ensure timely documentation of all crisis-related interactions and interventions.
Institutional Liaison & Cross-Campus Coordination
- Serve as primary liaison between Housing & Residence Life, Dean of Students Office, and University Police/Public Safety for student conduct and behavioral matters.
- Coordinate interdepartmental communication for conduct cases requiring multi-office collaboration.
- Participate in CATI or similar case review meetings.
- Ensure consistent information sharing protocols are followed in accordance with FERPA and institutional policy.
- Support escalation procedures for high-risk or complex student cases requiring institutional coordination.
Compliance, Policy Enforcement & Risk Management
- Ensure residential conduct processes comply with institutional policies, student code of conduct, Title IX requirements, and applicable federal/state regulations.
- Support Title IX awareness, reporting obligations, and staff training in coordination with appropriate campus offices.
- Monitor conduct trends to identify emerging behavioral risks and recommend proactive interventions.
- Maintain documentation standards that support institutional accountability and reduce liability exposure.
- Assist in updating conduct policies and procedures based on data, trends, and best practices.
Staff Training, Development & Quality Assurance
- Design, coordinate, and facilitate mandatory training for Housing staff on:
- -Conduct reporting and documentation standards
- -Incident report writing and case referral protocols
- -Crisis response and de-escalation techniques
- -Behavioral intervention strategies
- -Title IX awareness and reporting responsibilities
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of staff-written incident reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Provide coaching and corrective feedback to staff regarding conduct documentation and procedural adherence.
- Collaborate with leadership to integrate conduct education into ongoing staff development curriculum.
Student Success, Retention & Educational Programming
- Develop and implement conduct-focused educational programming addressing accountability, community standards, and student success.
- Collaborate with Residence Life staff to integrate behavioral expectations into residential curriculum initiatives.
- Utilize conduct and engagement data to identify students requiring targeted interventions.
- Support retention initiatives through proactive behavioral support and student engagement strategies.
Administrative Oversight, Assessment & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive conduct records using designated case management systems.
- Generate periodic reports on conduct trends, behavioral incidents, and student outcomes for departmental leadership.
- Support assessment efforts evaluating effectiveness of conduct processes and student interventions.
- Recommend operational improvements based on data analysis and institutional needs.
Decision-Making Authority:
- Authority to manage and resolve student conduct cases within established institutional guidelines.
- Authority to recommend sanctions, educational interventions, and behavioral outcomes.
- Authority to coordinate crisis response efforts in collaboration with campus partners.
- Authority to design and deliver training content related to conduct and compliance.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements at Time of Appointment:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Significant professional experience in student conduct, residence life, crisis response, or related higher education functions.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex student behavioral cases and administrative processes.
Degree Completion Requirement:
- Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field is required for continued progression within the role.
- The incumbent must complete a bachelor's degree or higher within four (4) years of appointment.
- Failure to meet degree completion requirements may impact continued employment, salary advancement, or reclassification eligibility.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities required.
- Must be able to respond to student crises and emergency situations.
- Position requires high levels of confidentiality, professional judgment, and emotional intelligence. Regular interaction with students in distress or disciplinary situations.
