Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Summary Under direct supervision of the Hays County Justice of the Peace Judges, the Juvenile Diversion Coordinator provides case management services to juveniles and their families in the Hays County area. Coordinates diversion activities and requirements with community services, specialized training providers, and local school authorities to implement programs for juvenile offenders or develop preventative programs for juveniles.

The product of the employees' work affects the public, the immediate staff of the department, as well as other county employees. This is a part-time position. Hours are: Monday 10am - 7pm Tuesday - Thursday 10am - 4pm Friday: OFF Individuals in this position serve at the pleasure of the current elected official.

Responsibilities Reviews juvenile case histories to determine eligibility and suitability for the Juvenile Diversion Program and coordinates appropriate diversion and court services for juvenile defendants and their families. Develops, presents, and maintains individualized diversion agreements and plans that promote accountability, rehabilitation, and community safety. Provides one-on-one case management, mentoring, guidance, and support to juveniles participating in the Diversion Program.

Maintains regular contact with juveniles and their parents or guardians to monitor progress, provide direction, address barriers, and assist with obtaining appropriate services and resources. Monitors juvenile compliance with diversion agreements, individualized diversion plans, court orders, and other program requirements. Follows up on missed requirements, noncompliance, and unsuccessful diversion cases and coordinates appropriate next steps with the court and other involved parties.

Identifies appropriate resources, services, programs, and interventions designed to address individual needs and reduce the likelihood of reoffending. Conducts school visits and coordinates with school administrators, counselors, and other school personnel regarding participating juveniles and appropriate prevention or intervention services. Works with local school authorities to identify, develop, and implement programs for juvenile offenders and preventative programs for at-risk youth.

Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with community-based organizations, youth-serving agencies, law enforcement, and other supporting agencies to coordinate services and identify opportunities for community service, specialized training, and other interventions. Develops, implements, and evaluates outreach and prevention programs for local schools, youth-serving agencies, and community organizations. Arranges appropriate community service projects for juveniles participating in the Diversion Program.

Coordinates enforcement and compliance efforts with law enforcement and other appropriate agencies when necessary. Prepares juvenile cases for the Judge before and during juvenile court dockets, including maintaining accurate case notes, supporting documentation, case status information, and other required records. Authorizes eligible juveniles charged with certain fine-only offenses for diversion from criminal adjudication in accordance with applicable requirements, emphasizing accountability and responsibility of the juvenile and parent or guardian while promoting community safety.

Schedules and coordinates court proceedings, notifies participants, and responds to inquiries from the Judge regarding individual cases. Responds to court case-related inquiries and provides information regarding established court policies, procedures, court dates, payment plans, deferred dispositions, and other administrative matters. Processes court documents, including complaints, affidavits, warrants, citations, requests, motions, and other case-related documentation.

Provides defendants with appropriate case documentation and prepares and distributes correspondence related to juvenile and diversion cases. Receives, processes, documents, and receipts payments for applicable court fees and fines. Compiles, maintains, and prepares data, statistics, status reports, and other records regarding the Diversion and Prevention Programs.

Performs court-related clerical and administrative duties necessary to support juvenile diversion and court operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science or a related field, required.

Three years' experience working with students and / or juveniles. Previous experience as a juvenile case manager or coordinator. Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
