Job description

We're looking for a Lead Packaging Designer who is passionate about beauty, obsessed with the details, and excited to shape how our products show up on shelf and in consumers' hands. This role will oversee the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of packaging across the Not Your Mother's portfolio, ensuring every product reflects the brand's visual identity while meeting production, regulatory, and retail requirements.
Reporting to the Creative Director, this role will partner closely with Innovation, Marketing, Product Experience, and Creative Operations to bring new launches to life while evolving our existing packaging ecosystem. From concept development to artwork updates, dielines, and press checks, you'll balance creative thinking with technical precision to ensure every package looks exactly as intended on shelf.

WHO YOU'LL LEAD/COLLABORATE WITH:
  • Partner with Innovation teams to bring new product concepts into packaging design development
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Storytelling teams to ensure packaging clearly communicates product benefits and brand messaging
  • Work closely with Creative Operations to manage timelines and ensure packaging milestones stay on track
    Support Sales and Trade teams with packaging visuals and storytelling tools when needed
  • Develop 2D and 3D renderings to help visualize packaging concepts, merchandising, and retail presence

HOW YOU'LL MAKE YOUR MARK:
Packaging Design & Innovation
• Concept and design packaging for new product launches across primary and secondary packaging formats
• Translate product positioning and brand strategy into packaging systems that stand out on shelf and resonate with consumers
• Develop creative concepts for packaging, seasonal kits, and limited-edition launches
• Partner with Creative leadership to evolve the visual expression of the brand through packaging
• Create packaging mockups, prototypes, and visual presentations to support internal reviews and product development discussions
Packaging System Management & Production
• Oversee ongoing maintenance of existing packaging across the product portfolio
• Manage packaging updates including copy revisions, regulatory updates, SKU additions, and artwork changes
• Maintain packaging templates and systems to ensure consistency across product lines
• Prepare final production files including dielines, color callouts, and print specifications
• Work closely with vendors and manufacturers to ensure packaging executes as intended
• Travel for press checks to review color, materials, and finishes during production runs
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure packaging meets quality and brand standards
• Ensure all packaging files remain organized, accurate, and production-ready
Requirements
REQUIRED SUPERPOWERS:
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Experience working with die lines, print production, and packaging specifications
  • Strong understanding of materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including marketing, product development, and production
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple packaging projects simultaneously

Bonus If You:
  • Have experience working in beauty, skincare, or personal care packaging
  • Are familiar with packaging sustainability and emerging material innovations
  • Have experience with 2D and 3D packaging rendering tools
  • Have worked on retail-driven brands where shelf impact is critical
  • Have experience attending press checks or managing vendor relationships

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• 6-10+ years of experience in packaging design (beauty, personal care, or CPG preferred)
• 1-3 years of management or supervisory experience
• Strong portfolio demonstrating packaging design across multiple formats
WHAT IT TAKES DAY-TO-DAY:
• This is an office-based role with no physical requirements
• Hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote
