This position provides data science modeling and statistical analyses in support of the entire solid rocket motor lifecycle, including design, materials, test, reliability, production, service life, aging and sustainment evaluations. Works primarily in close partnership with engineering; may also collaborate with other organizations across a wide variety of projects including quality, operations, program management, business management, and digital services.

Job Duties:

  • Partner with systems and design engineering to develop failure modes and effects, develop data supporting estimated variability and probabilities of failure for each component, model and analyze reliability for the entire system
  • Partner with process and quality to develop estimates of manufacturing variability, inspection methods and capabilities, statistical process control plans / tools / reports
  • Develop models and maintain data for material allowables used in design based on characterization and acceptance testing
  • Design, analyze and interpret data from various performance tests on rocket motor systems
  • Develop and utilize predictive cost models for products and programs
  • Develop digital technology roadmaps for integrated digital tool suites and support development of new tools
  • Support improvement and investigation efforts

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Statistics, Data Science or other quantitative field (Mathematics, Industrial Math, Reliability Engineering) with 5 years of experience OR MS degree or other advanced training and certification preferred with 3 years of experience OR PhD with 1 year of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in statistics, data science, or other industrial mathematics. 3 years minimum with MS degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Basic knowledge of solid rocket motor components, functions, and manufacturing processes. Other practical experience with complex systems may be considered.
  • Experience with systems reliability calculations and Bayesian statistics
  • Technical software knowledge and experience with Rstudio, Statistica, or other similar statistics software
  • Ability to learn how to apply statistics and data science in novel applications
  • Excellent teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams in highly interdependent environment
  • Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills
  • Interest and willingness to learn new digital tools and methods

  • Northrop Grumman experience
  • Propulsion Systems experience
  • Current, active Secret security clearance upon application.
Primary Level Salary Range: $108,200.00 - $162,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
