Product Development Scientist II
At Bayer, our mission is Health for all, Hunger for none, and Crop Science is helping shape the future of agriculture through innovation, sustainability, and data-driven decision-making; As a Product Development Scientist II, you will join cross-functional teams spanning seed and trait product development, plant breeding, genetics, field trials, data analysis, and commercial collaboration to advance high-performing products for North America; This role offers the opportunity to contribute across the product pipeline-from experimental design and product evaluation to product placement, launch readiness, and commercialization-while helping farmers succeed and supporting a more resilient food system.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Product Development Scientist II, are to:
  • Lead seed and trait product development activities to advance high-performing products aligned with customer needs, market opportunities, and commercial strategy;
  • Design, execute, and interpret experiments, field trials, and product evaluation studies to support product advancement, placement, and pipeline decisions;
  • Apply plant breeding, genetics, statistics, and data analysis to improve product performance, selection accuracy, and decision-making across the product pipeline;
  • Collaborate across breeding, field testing, data science, operations, and commercial teams to deliver product development milestones and commercialization readiness;
  • Use digital tools, analytics, and emerging technologies to improve breeding efficiency, pipeline performance, and return on investment;
  • Translate technical results into clear product insights and recommendations for internal stakeholders, growers, and customer-facing teams;
  • Support product placement, launch planning, knowledge transfer, and continuous improvement across seed and trait development programs;
  • Promote a safe, compliant, and collaborative environment while delivering results in agricultural research and product development.

WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in plant breeding, animal breeding, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, data science, or a related scientific discipline; or an MS with 5+ years of relevant experience;
  • Strong background in experimental design, field trials, data analysis, and interpretation of product performance results;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Ability to travel seasonally for meetings, field sites, and nursery locations;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and deliver results in a dynamic agricultural product development environment;
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to translate complex scientific insights into clear business and customer recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in seed and trait product development, plant breeding, genetics, agricultural research, or applied data science;
  • Demonstrated success working across cross-functional, cross-cultural teams and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $94,000-$135,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
