Job Description

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Mercedes-Benz Seattle Hub is looking for a manager of DevOps engineers for the new office in Seattle. The Infrastructure Engineering and Operations (DevOps) team are the experts in building and maintaining the infrastructure for web services and applications that support our cloud business. We are systems engineers, infrastructure engineers, Operations Architects and SMEs with opportunities to develop software to support our charter. We are a geo-diverse team, developing an infrastructure platform to ensure operational stability for our software deployments, the development environment and delivery partners in their adoption of cloud based solutions and datacenters for Mercedes-Benz.

  • Contribute to the design and infrastructure builds platforms that leverage Cloud/Virtualization and hybrid environments.
  • Cultivate relationships with developers, engineers and other technology partners to understand their infrastructure needs and put them into action.
  • Provide mentorship and technical direction to team-members and evangelize practices and methodologies.
  • Develop metrics, monitors and alerting to ensure operational excellence.
  • Identify opportunities to automate processes and help to implement potential solutions.
  • Provide scalable engineering and supportability deliverables, resulting in products and services with more efficiency, lower risk, and reduced customer impact.
  • Identify security and performance issues at multiple layers of deployment, from hardware, operating environment, network and application; Provide technical expertise in identifying issues that affect availability and quality across the software product portfolio.
  • Build and Manage a team of high-performing DevOps professionals
  • Mentor DevOps professionals and provide opportunities for career development
  • Build the DevOps process and tools for the Seattle Hub
  • Represent Seattle Hub interests in discussions with DevOps teams in Germany and elsewhere
  • Manage DevOps resources to cover all DevOps needs for the development teams/projects
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related
  • Eight plus years' experience as Software Engineer or DevOps Engineer.
  • Previous experience in a leadership position within a DevOps team.
  • First-hand experience with the software development life cycle, software testing methodologies and Agile Development Methodology.
  • Lead creation of software development and deployment techniques and tools.
  • Have the ability to quickly understand and assimilate business vision and goals in all solutions, and 'translate' technical information teams and test cases.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and effectively function in an interrupt-driven environment. Have excellent analytical & problem solving skills. Have the ability to innovate and be creative.
  • Solve problems and have the tenacity to drive issues to conclusion.
  • Have strong written and verbal skills and their skills to collaborate with colleagues from a wide range of job functions
  • Have project management skills to handle multiple concurrent projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two plus years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or other Major cloud based technologies including administration and scripting of tasks. Can use VM based infrastructure as substitute skill
  • Two plus years of CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) pipeline process experience in development and production environments.
  • Have previously developed software which is closely coupled with hardware devices (automotive, mobile handsets, gaming hardware).
  • Proficiency in a programming language (Python, Java, C#)
  • Experience managing DevOps individual contributors
  • Knowledge of CAN networks and OBD interface in a vehicle.
