Job Responsibilities:

Serve as Engineering's lithium-ion battery subject matter expert, responsible for cell selection, testing, modeling, and Battery Management System (BMS) algorithm development. Responsibilities include defining cell requirements, test programs, data analysis workflows, model development, and SoX algorithms. This role is central to specifying, validating, and integrating battery systems into Crown products.

Operate with strong technical judgment and independence, contributing cross-functionally and potentially guiding engineers or technicians. Reports to a Chief Engineer, Project Leader, or Group Leader with minimal supervision.

Key tasks include:

  • Own electrical, thermal, lifecycle, and safety requirements for battery cells
  • Define and execute characterization, aging, and abuse test programs
  • Develop data analysis workflows and translate results into requirements and models
  • Build and maintain cell models; support module and pack modeling
  • Support thermal modeling across cells, modules, and packs
  • Contribute to BMS architecture (sensing, control, protection)
  • Collaborate with software on SoX, diagnostics, and protection functions
  • Partner with mechanical, systems, controls, safety, and supply chain teams
  • Support supplier reviews, test plans, and qualification

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of battery systems experience (Salary will be commensurate with experience)
  • Strong knowledge of lithium-ion cells, testing, and BMS fundamentals
  • Experience with requirements, test plans, and technical specifications
  • Proficiency in data analysis and technical communication
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Ability to travel up to 20% (overnight)
  • Valid driver's license and passport

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with cell characterization, SoX modeling, and abuse testing
  • Knowledge of BMS architecture, sensing circuits, and safety-critical systems
  • Experience in industrial, automotive, or motive power battery systems
  • Familiarity with battery safety and regulatory standards
