Job description

Job Summary

The Ready-Mix Batch Plant Operator is responsible for operating and overseeing the concrete batching process to ensure the accurate and efficient production of high-quality concrete. This position plays a key role in meeting project specifications by maintaining mix consistency, monitoring raw materials, and ensuring safe and compliant operations.

The Operator must demonstrate attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

1. Batching Operations

  • Operate computerized batching systems to proportion and mix concrete materials according to specified mix designs.
  • Monitor batching equipment and adjust settings to ensure accurate measurements and consistency.
  • Load trucks safely and efficiently while maintaining communication with dispatch and drivers.
  • Ensure timely production schedules are met to support project requirements.

2. Quality Control

  • Conduct regular checks on raw materials and concrete consistency to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Make necessary adjustments to mix designs or batching processes based on environmental or material changes.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control staff to ensure proper sampling and testing procedures.

3. Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform daily pre-shift inspections and basic maintenance on batching and plant equipment.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and report equipment malfunctions or potential issues to maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain plant cleanliness, including equipment, grounds, and storage areas.

4. Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with dispatch, drivers, and project staff to maintain efficient concrete delivery schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with the Production and Maintenance teams regarding plant status, material shortages, and system performance.
  • Assist with training new or temporary employees as needed.

5. Recordkeeping & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate logs of production volumes, materials used, batch adjustments, and delivery times.
  • Complete required production and inspection reports in a timely, organized manner.
  • Follow company procedures for documentation retention and data entry accuracy.

6. Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and cleanup of materials.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and report hazards or near-miss incidents immediately.
  • Maintain compliance with stormwater, dust-control, and environmental guidelines.

Requirements

  • Previous experience operating a ready-mix or aggregate batching plant preferred.
  • Knowledge of concrete materials, batching controls, and mix design adjustments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Basic computer literacy for automated batching systems and recordkeeping.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.
