Description:

South Atlanta High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Coach for the Girls Junior Varsity Basketball Team. Our ideal candidate will have prior coaching experience, a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, player development, and game strategy, along with the ability to foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive competitive environment.

Candidates should be passionate about mentoring student-athletes, developing skills both on and off the court, and contributing to the continued growth and success of our girls' basketball program.  

The Assistant Girls JV Basketball Coach will be expected to utilize current strategies and theories to plan, organize and implement structured lessons. This position reports to the Principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: ASSISTANT GIRLS JV BASKETBALL COACH

  • Is knowledgeable and has a deep understanding of the designated sport; Ability to instruct student athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success; Ability to positively motivate, guide, and instruct student-athletes to ensure success with positive moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence, and growth academically; Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills; Excellent communicator; Ability to work well with parents and community; Works well under pressure and can de-escalate difficult situations.
  • Leads staff in the planning and organization of the entire program. This includes, but is not limited to, practices, games, off-season conditioning, feeder programming, fund raising, awards ceremonies, communications, adherence to policies, and academic progress of student athletes.
  • Ensures that entire staff, including the head coach, provides the proper instruction of student athletes on the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success
  • Works with the Athletic Director, Principal, or designee to properly make purchases and coaching assignments. Maintains a yearly inventory and budget to account for all equipment and monies.
  • Works with Athletic Director on coordinating game day schedules, preparing rosters, and itineraries 48 hours prior to the event.
  • Works collaboratively with school leadership, booster club, parents, and community members to increase participation, raise revenue through fundraising and community partnerships, and arranging services such as field maintenance, lodging, meals, and emergency services.
  • Ensures that each game and practice is conducted in a safe environment. Develops and implements a site specific emergency response plan. Ensures that all staff members are properly certified in CPR and First Aide. Interacts with team trainer, family physicians, and parents when necessary to monitor and provide support to injured players
  • Maintains and stays abreast of GHSA and district guidelines regarding policies, procedures, and practices
  • Develops processes that monitor and ensures that all athletes have current physical and insurance forms on file and that all athletes are eligible to participate. Also, ensures that staff have immediate access to this information in case of emergency or information requests.
  • Promotes and encourages fair play, good sportsmanship, and high ethical standards for staff and athletes both on and off the field.
  • Works with the media and district PR department to promote the successes of the program


CERTIFICATION:

  • Minimum of SRT4-Certification in content field
    or GHSA Certified
  • First Aid & CPR certification required

Knowledge of school safety & security procedures Excellent writing and communication skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines ESSENTIAL DUTIES Instruct students in an in-person classroom environment through lectures, discussions, visual aids, instructional strategies and other effective teaching methods for student comprehension. Prepares lessons and outlines to use in class that effectively cover the material. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress. Administers various types of assessments to monitor student's comprehension of the material. Administer and/or supports state and local testing processes and policies. Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations. Assist students who need extra help with tutoring. Guides and counsels students with adjustment or academic problems or special academic interests. When in an in-person classroom environment, responsible for daily classroom clean up and wiping down surfaces to uphold sanitation standards as required for safe school environment. Monitors students in the classroom, at lunch or throughout the school by maintaining order and discipline. Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Performs various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding to emails and phone calls from parents, school administrators, and staff in a timely manner. Collaborates with other teachers and administrators to develop, evaluate, and revise academic programs following approved curricula. Coordinates in-person conferences with parents and guardians to review student's performance, behavior and other issues. Attends in-person faculty meetings, teacher training workshops and educational conferences to maintain and improve professional competence. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. Assists administrators and other staff members in the orderly, expedient and safe transition of students from one location to another. Assists with training volunteers in-person. Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.
Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Understand how to manage stress.
COMPENSATION:
Stipend: $4500.00
