Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for on-call EMT Basic positions with the Medicine Bow (MEDBOW) program. MEDBOW is a long-standing program within Emergency Medicine that provides contracted emergency medical services at events across New Mexico, supporting community safety through professional pre-hospital care.

Under general supervision, EMT Basics provide medical care within the scope of their certification at a variety of public and private events. Responsibilities include patient assessment, basic life support, emergency response, documentation, and coordination with other medical personnel and event staff.

This is an on-call position with variable scheduling based on event needs. The preferred candidate will demonstrate reliability and flexibility, with an expectation to sign up for and work an average of three (3) shifts per month, and approximately five (5) shifts during the month of September, which is typically a high-demand period.

Ideal candidates will have prior EMS experience in a field ("street") or hospital-based setting and be comfortable working in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

  • May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; no previous experience required. Certification/Licensure: NM Licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Basic.
