Job description

We welcome all to apply, however we have openings for a Head Varsity Baseball Coach and Head Varsity Softball Coach.


Additionally, we have openings for assistants and/or middle school coaches for baseball, girls soccer, golf, softball, and track & field.


Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Head of School and Principal, and the direct supervision of the Athletic Director, the CCA Coach will teach, train, and coach students in their assigned sport, and support the school in reinforcing day-to-day, Biblically-grounded instruction and discipleship. This individual will serve as a minister of Christ in all activities performed as an employee of Cornerstone Christian Academy/Cornerstone Chapel. He or she will seek to perform all duties as unto the Lord, relying on the Holy Spirit for guidance, and completing all tasks with excellence.

He/she must have a strong, active, and committed relationship with Jesus Christ, a willingness to lead with a humble heart, a passion for developing students through athletics, and a calling to serve at Cornerstone Christian Academy. While operating within a culture of excellence, CCA involves its student-athletes in interscholastic sports to glorify and honor God with the talents and abilities He has given.

As a Christian role model for his/her student-athletes, the CCA Coach must exhibit patience, grace, humility, and integrity when working with administration, faculty, students, parents, officials, and opponents.


Please Note: We have both middle and high school coaching positions available.
During the application process, you will be asked which sport you are applying for, indicate head or assistant coach, and specify if you are interested in coaching at the middle or high school level.



Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma required

Experience

  • Two or more years of middle or high school coaching experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • An extensive knowledge and background of the sport that he/she is coaching
  • A coaching philosophy that aligns with CCA's mission and vision
  • Ability to integrate Biblical truth and worldview into practice plans and other team functions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with leadership, peers, faculty, students, parents, volunteers and the external community
  • Current possession or willingness to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification

Technologies

  • Must be competent using email and basic Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)

Physical Capabilities

  • Able to stand and walk for most of the day; speak and hear clearly; operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment; reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop and twist; and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to setup and breakdown for practices and games/matches/meets

  • Able to recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children's education and be prepared to assist them in that task

  • Adheres to high ethical standards and exemplifies Christian behavior in attitude, speech, and actions towards others
  • Maintains a modest, professional, and clean personal appearance consistent with school policy
  • Maintains confidentiality in records, conversations, and any other student, parent, or school related information

Work Hours/Travel

  • Must be able to attend and lead practices and games
  • Athletics-related travel as necessary
  • Ability to drive student-athletes to and from CCA sponsored events
  • Completed and approved Driving Background Check
  • Willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver's License if requested by the Athletic Director

Job Functions and Tasks

Essential Functions

  • Lead and direct Biblically based team devotions on a regular basis
  • Lead team in prayer before and after games, meets and practices
  • Work collaboratively with CCA Administration to implement and enforce the school's disciplinary policies, dress code, and standards of behavior
  • Create and cultivate a Christ-centered culture within the team through mentorship, discipleship, and leading by example
  • Teach the sport's fundamentals each day of practice
  • Use athletics to teach Biblical principles and life lessons
  • Adhere to all CCA athletic policies and procedures
  • Encourage and promote excellence in academics from student-athletes
  • Communicate clearly with student-athletes and parents regarding schedules, transportation, policies/procedures, etc.
  • Notify parents of student-athlete(s) and the Athletic Director when injuries occur and document appropriately
  • Assist and work with the Athletic Director on the following:
    • Establishing the culture of CCA Athletics
    • Equipment ordering
    • Equipment inventory - including handing out, collecting, cleaning, and storing
    • Game scheduling
    • Practice scheduling
    • Pre-season and post-season meetings and events
    • Collection of forms (physicals, code of conduct, etc.)
    • Facility setup and breakdown
    • Facility upkeep and maintenance (as necessary)
    • Away game itineraries and transportation plans
    • Supervise, mentor and evaluate assistant coach(es) and volunteers (if applicable)
  • Ensure safety of all through facility and equipment checks
  • Carry emergency medical information for each athlete at all activities including practices, games, and team functions
  • Contribute to the implementation and execution of an elementary program (camps, clinics, etc.)
  • Submit required lists, reports, and paperwork to the Athletic Director in a timely manner
  • Promote the program to the students, parents, and community
  • Display hospitality and the love of Christ to students, parents, officials, opposing teams, etc.
  • Regularly collaborate with teaching colleagues, teachers, administration, and other school personnel to contribute to the positive development of the school environment, learning community, programs, and activities
  • Attend and participate in appropriate trainings, in-service, and all-staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
