Job description

DIRECT HIRE: An excellent opportunity for a skilled BAS Controls Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team in the Lawrenceville, GA area. The BAS Controls Design Engineer will be responsible for developing, designing, and supporting building automation and HVAC control systems. This position focuses on translating project specifications, operational sequences, and engineering standards into detailed control drawings and technical documentation that support installation, programming, startup, and ongoing system performance.

📍 Location: Lawrenceville, GA
💰 Salary Range: $90K - $115K DOE
🕒 Schedule: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (40–50 hours/week)

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development

Design and engineer HVAC/BAS control systems for commercial and industrial projects

Prepare detailed control schematics, wiring diagrams, network layouts, and panel drawings using Microsoft Visio

Review and interpret mechanical, electrical, and construction documents to coordinate control system designs

Develop and validate Sequences of Operation to ensure functionality and project compliance

Specify and select controllers, sensors, actuators, dampers, valves, relays, transformers, and related control components

Documentation & Project Support

Assemble comprehensive controls submittal packages including:
• Control drawings
• Point lists
• Device schedules
• Network topology diagrams
• Panel layouts

Maintain drawing revisions, document control, and version tracking throughout project lifecycle

Update design documentation based on QA reviews, customer feedback, and field modifications

Technical Coordination

Collaborate closely with project managers, programmers, commissioning teams, and field technicians

Provide technical clarification and support regarding control system design and installation requirements

Assist with RFIs, design reviews, and project kickoff meetings

Support commissioning and startup activities when required

Quality & Standards

Ensure all designs comply with company standards, industry best practices, and applicable codes

Incorporate proper interlocks, fail-safe sequences, and operational logic into designs

Contribute to process improvements, design standards, and engineering templates

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred — equivalent industry experience considered

2+ years of experience in HVAC controls, BAS, or automation system design

Proficient with Microsoft Visio and technical drafting/documentation

Strong understanding of:
• HVAC equipment and control strategies
• BAS communication protocols including BACnet/IP and MS/TP
• Low-voltage controls and wiring practices
• Sensors, actuators, relays, and field devices

Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering drawings

Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills

Preferred Experience:

Exposure to Niagara, Distech, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tridium, or related BAS platforms

Knowledge of commissioning procedures and functional testing

Experience supporting projects during construction and startup phases

Familiarity with panel fabrication and controls integration

Work Environment:

Primarily office-based with occasional field/site visits for coordination and project support

Ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously

Some travel may be required depending on project needs
