General Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of technicians to ensure production & financial goals of the unit are met
- Perform required administrative duties, including work schedules, payroll timesheets, expenses, etc
- Provide training and mentoring to all staff to ensuring SOP’s are available, followed and implemented
- Provide regular feedback to staff including through the annual performance evaluation program
- Comply with company policies regarding the hiring, discipline and termination of employees
- Responsible for planning work schedules for barn staff in accordance with labour budgets
- Lead or aid with the movement of pigs in and out of assigned unit
- Ensure unit is CPE & ACA compliant
- Responsible for implementing and following assigned feed budgets and provide feed bin inventories as required
- Ensure low stress animal handling practices are being followed
- Implement all biosecurity protocols, including shower in, shower out, rodent control, visitors, security of unit, etc.
- Work with Health Services to implement herd health protocols - sanitation, treatments, vaccinations, etc.
- Monitor and maintain proper ventilation and temperature control settings for the unit
- Coordinate maintenance in and outside of barn, including manure management, ventilation, feed & water systems, penning/slats, and general building maintenance, yard upkeep, dead removal & snow removal
- Understand OH&S regulations associated with the Unit and ensure compliance with the use of personal protective equipment, safe work procedures and company policies
- Ensure incidents at unit are documented and reported in a timely manner
- Conduct regular staff meetings
- Maintain proper inventory of general and veterinary barn supplies, order from Central Purchasing as needed
- Test, respond and acknowledge barn alarms and ensure adequate coverage for afterhours is maintained at all times & be available for emergency duties
- Ensure preventative maintenance & procedures on barn equipment are performed and verified
- Other duties as required

- Strong personnel, management, leadership, time management, training & motivational skills

- Computer skills - ability to understand and analyze production and financial records & budgets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
