What is a banner designer?

A Banner Designer is a graphic design professional who creates visually appealing banners for digital and print media. They design advertisements, website banners, social media graphics, and promotional materials to attract attention and communicate a message effectively. Their role involves using design software, selecting colors and typography, and ensuring the banner aligns with branding guidelines. Banner Designers may work for marketing agencies, freelance, or within a company's creative team.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a banner designer?

A Banner Designer's typical day involves collaborating with marketing teams or clients to understand project requirements, conceptualizing design ideas, and turning those ideas into visually engaging banners using design software. Tasks often include creating both digital and print-ready banners, making revisions based on feedback, and ensuring all designs meet brand guidelines and technical specifications. Frequent communication with other designers, copywriters, and project managers is common to ensure that campaigns are cohesive and deadlines are met. Staying updated on current design trends and best practices is also part of the role, helping to keep your work fresh and effective.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the banner designer position, and why are they important?

Success as a Banner Designer requires strong graphic design skills, an eye for color and layout, and proficiency with digital design principles, often supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva is essential, and knowledge of web design standards is a plus. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help designers translate client needs into compelling visuals and work well with other team members. These abilities ensure banner designs are visually appealing, aligned with branding, and deliver effective messaging to target audiences.

Job description

GTC is seeking a high-energy Motion Designer to join our fast-moving Los Angeles promo team. This role is built for a rhythm-driven creator with experience in animation of promo material for artist content. You must be an expert in the Adobe Creative Suite, with a proven ability to deliver in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Successful Candidates Will Have

  • Strong understanding of motion design for high-volume production, including broadcast and digital delivery specs, codecs, frame rates, and compression standards.
  • Proficiency in building and working within After Effects projects, including precomps, expressions, templating, and efficient render workflows.
  • Ability to handle heavy localization/versioning workflows (text swaps, date/city changes, multi-market rollouts) with speed and accuracy.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across creative, production, and client teams while maintaining professionalism.
  • Technical problem solving ability across animation, rendering, and file delivery challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working quickly and independently under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Execute motion graphics and animations while maintaining visual consistency and brand integrity across all deliverables.
  • Organize and maintain project files, templates, and assets for scalability and reuse.
  • Prepare and export final deliverables across multiple formats, specs, and platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, editors, and producers to bring creative concepts to life.
  • Troubleshoot and provide efficient solutions during production and delivery.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment—easy to work with, responsive, and reliable.

Qualifications

  • Strong motion design reel demonstrating animation, typography, and compositing skills, and/or a Bachelor’s degree in Motion Design, Animation, Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience in an agency or in-house creative environment is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in parallel in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. This is critical for success in this high-volume environment of production workflows.
  • Familiarity with HTML5 banner workflows is a plus (AE → video → developer handoff or tools like Google Web Designer/Celtra).
