SUMMARY

The position of Personal Banker is required to be fully knowledgeable and skilled in a complete range of banking services for individual customers and small businesses, as well as in the areas of new accounts, assigned accounts, loan products and branch operations. The position of Personal Banker is responsible to meet with customers to discuss their financial needs, answer questions and provide recommendations, provide customer service and support on designated accounts while responding to client requests. The Personal Banker is responsible for developing new business relationships through marketing, calling and being active in business functions; promoting business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations, cross selling Bank products; and referring customers to appropriate staff for new and additional services. This position processes all new account transactions and assists customers with various accounts and financial services. This position may also perform routine and intermediate branch and customer services and branch clerical duties. The position of Personal Banker must maintain compliance within audit, internal controls, security, BSA, and CTR standards.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Works with the Manager to define sales strategies necessary to meet sales and referral goals for individual, branch, and bank growth.
2. Open new accounts, both business and personal by assigning account numbers; completes forms requiring customer signature(s); checks Chexsystem history; accepts initial deposits; prepares all documents and items pertaining to business and personal checking accounts, savings accounts and certificates of deposit for processing.
3. Work to retain existing client relationships and obtain new relationships by conducting calls on maturing accounts, following up on leads, referrals and other prospecting opportunities.
4. Expand current client relationships and building new client relationships by understanding their needs and providing solutions via the use of all appropriate product features available across all bank product lines.
5. Cross sell appropriate banking products and services to prospective customers, promoting business for the Bank.
6. Respond timely to customerโ€™s requests regarding small business banking products.
7. Follow up on any leads, letters and mailers provided by Branch Manager or Business Development Officer.

8. May perform routine and intermediate branch and customer service duties.
9. Receives retail and commercial checking and savings deposits by determining that all necessary deposit documents are in proper form and issuing receipts.
10. Confirms all necessary documents are properly authorized, are in proper form and are within authorized limits; should be able to make decisions when questionable items are presented for cashing; if uncertain, will seek assistance from immediate supervisor.
11. May assist in opening and closing the vault daily; assists in balancing vault currency and coin.
12. Operates computer terminal or personal computer to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems within given authority.
13. May issue official checks, money orders, travelerโ€™s checks and savings bond applications.
14. Cross-sells the Bankโ€™s other products and services, referring customers to appropriate staff as indicated.
15. Assists with safe deposit duties by opening accounts, controlling access, assisting customers and processing affiliated reports.
16. May receive and process stop payment and hold orders.
17. May accept loan, installment and collection payments.
18. Provides effective customer service and assists in resolving problems within given authority.
19. Records, files, updates information and sorts mail or reports as required.
20. Assists in answering telephones and directs callers to proper Bank personnel.
21. May gather data and process various reports (e.g., currency transaction, returned items, overdrafts, callbacks, etc.)
22. Processes address changes check and deposit slip orders, endorsement stamp orders. Assists with other operational duties as assigned.
23. May type routine letters, reports and forms.
24. Maintains files, copies and faxes documents, and may assist in ordering and distributing supplies.


SECONDARY DUTIES

The position of Personal Banker performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The position of Personal Banker is not responsible for the supervision of any employee(s), however the incumbent is required to provide leadership, training and support to less experienced tellers and other staff members.

The incumbent in this position must be able to accommodate to reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, customer contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, multiple concurrent tasks and constant interruptions.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three (3) or more years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work related experience should consist of a financial institution customer service and cash handling background. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.
  • Intermediate experience, knowledge and training in business banking products and branch operation activities, terminology and products and services.
  • Intermediate knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies.
  • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; and word processing, spreadsheet and account opening software programs.
  • Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
  • Basic math skills; calculate interest and balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; count currency, coin and negotiable instruments in a timely manner.
  • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, compose correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with general supervision while performing duties.
  • Current California driverโ€™s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
