Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 15+ years experience (controller experience a plus)
  • Experience holding a senior leadership roles

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop an effective operations and customer service oriented accounting staff by developing job descriptions, training, promotion, and goal setting
  • Work directly with all departments to improve their financial performance
  • Provide accurate and timely monthly financial statements to the company’s owners, managers and bankers
  • Develop easy to follow statements for users and support user questions and requests
  • Develop standardized and efficient reporting and include analysis and explanations of results and trends
  • Develop and improve systems of internal control, protect the company’s assets and review transactions for accuracy.
  • Identify and implement cost savings. Increase informational efficiencies, reduce administration cost and question the benefit of every expenditure. Enforce compliance with budget.
  • Manage the independent annual audit including cost reduction, scheduling, GAAP compliance with no audit adjustments
  • Ensure federal and state tax compliance and manage any audit to obtain the most favorable result
  • Meet vendor obligations to pay at the optimum time.
  • Direct preparation of payroll and processing appropriate taxes, 401(k) contributions and group insurance premiums.
  • Direct cash management including investing and borrowing short term funds.
  • Encourage sales while keeping credit risk at a reasonable level by coordinating and administering the company credit and collection policies. Exercise sound judgment and diplomacy in dealing with customers.
  • Ensure all transactions associated with retail store, catalog, and e-commerce operations follow corporate standards and are properly recorded
  • Ensure accurate inventory record keeping and consistent application of inventory accounting procedures
  • Ensure accurate product cost information including direct, indirect and overhead costs. Make product mix recommendations based on product profitability.
  • Direct recording acquisitions, transfers, and disposals of corporate fixed assets. Ensure compliance with budget and capital asset acquisition policies.
