Job description

WHO WE ARE:

This position will be located at our main office at 101 E. 15th St, Austin, Texas in the RID Tax Collections Unit. 

TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.

Due to access to sensitive information in this position, the person to whom an offer of employment is made will be required to pass a federal background check.   

WHO YOU ARE:  
A detail-oriented professional with accounting and or collections experience who is comfortable dealing with employers, accountants, and attorneys in discussing sensitive debt issues. You are confident and are good at reviewing data to verify its accuracy, ensuring that it is compliant with rules and regulations, and you can provide guidance to your customers on the rules and regulations you enforce. Flexibility is a plus as work assignments may change from day to day, depending on items received from upstream departments. Working with a team and accepting responsibility for how your work affects others is essential in this team environment.   

WHAT YOU WILL DO:  
The Collections Tax Accounts Examiner performs entry-level to moderately complex (journey-level) accounts examination work. Work involves examining tax accounts and collecting taxes, fees, and penalties. Collection action includes issuing delinquency notices, contacting banks for collection efforts, using the Comptroller system to place payment holds, and issuing legal documents to county clerks for enforcement of debt against delinquent employers. You will work under close to general supervision, with minimal to limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.   

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:  
-Examine Unemployment Insurance Tax records of employers to secure collection of past-due taxes and related amounts.  
-Review employer Tax records and other applicable databases to verify delinquency and employer identity before taking collection action.  
-You may take any of the following actions to collect past-due amounts: issue Default (past-due) Notices, file liens and document recording data, negotiate payment plans, issue bank freezes/levies, place warrant holds with Comptroller, and other enforcement actions.  
-Respond to a heavy workload of telephone calls, electronic mail, and letters from employers or their representatives.  
-Perform other duties as assigned.   

YOU QUALIFY WITH:  
-Accounts Examiner I: One year of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work. Acceptance into a TWC Internship or TWC Apprenticeship will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
-Accounts Examiner II: Two years of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work. One year of full-time in-service TWC experience classified as an Accounts Examiner I with regular status will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
-Accounts Examiner III: Three years of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work. One year of full-time in-service TWC experience classified as an Accounts Examiner II with regular status will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
-All Levels: Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
