Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) Neurosurgery & Trauma Department

Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC)- Level 1 Trauma Center JBSAโ€“Fort Sam Houston | San Antonio, TX

MDPerm is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to support Neurosurgery and Trauma services at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), one of the Department of Defense's premier Level I Trauma Centers.

Position Overview

The selected provider will deliver advanced trauma care in the Neurosurgery Department, trauma bay, ICU, step-down units, medical-surgical wards, and the trauma clinic. Providers must be confident in functioning independently within the scope of practice and collaboratively within a trauma team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients in the neurosurgery and trauma service.

  • Technically advise and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (acute, chronic, and minor trauma)

  • Conduct inpatient and outpatient follow-ups.

  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation per hospital and federal standards.

  • Perform life-saving interventions for high acuity neurosurgical patients in the emergency department, ICUs, step-down, and medical-surgical wards.

Minimum Qualifications For Physician Assistant (PA):
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA-accredited program

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree

  • NCCPA Certified

  • Current, full, active, unrestricted U.S. license

  • BLS and ACLS (AHA or Red Cross)

For Nurse Practitioner (NP):
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program

  • National board certification

  • Current, full, active, unrestricted U.S. license

  • BLS and ACLS (AHA or Red Cross)

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in Neurosurgery, Trauma or Critical Care settings

  • Ability to function independently in high-acuity clinical environments

Schedule & Shift
  • Full-Time | On-Site

  • 12-hour shifts (may extend up to 14 hours depending on acuity)

  • Day shifts

  • Coverage includes Mondayโ€“Sunday rotation
