    Duties and responsibilities

    • Preparing a wide variety of baked goods, such as cakes, cookies, pies, danishes, etc., by following recipes and/or product directions.
    • Keeping and maintaining records relating to inventory and production levels.
    • Filling the display case with finished pastries.
    • Greeting customers in the bakery department in a timely manner.
    • Answering customer questions and providing advice regarding products.
    • Communicating customer requests to their supervisor and/or department manager.
    • Suggestion selling.
    • Measuring and weighing out baking ingredients.
    • Combining measured ingredients into bowls for mixing or blending.
    • Setting time and speed controls for mixing or blending machines to ensure consistency.
    • Mixing various ingredients to create fillings for cakes and pies (chocolate ganache, caramel sauces, fruits, etc.).
    • Rolling, kneading, cutting, or shaping dough to form sweet rolls, pie crusts, tarts, cookies, or other products.
    • Placing dough or batter in pans, molds, or sheets.
    • Setting the oven temperature and placing items into hot ovens for baking.
    • Observing colour of the products being baked and adjust oven temperature, humidity, or conveyor speeds accordingly.
    • Decorating pastries using different glazes, icings, and toppings.
    • Washing and cleaning baking supplies by following sanitation and cleaning procedures.
    • Meeting deadlines given by management.
    • Keeping work area clean and presentable.
    • Completing all opening and closing procedures.
    • Promoting a positive company image by actively engaging with employees, customers, suppliers, and the community.
    • Sharing their ideas or observations with supervisors in regard to new items or trends in the market.
    • Adhering to their posted schedule and requesting changes through supervisors.
    • Following basic inventory and waste guidelines.
    • Representing ICS both in and out of the store.
    • Adhering to all food safety protocols, standard operating procedures, health and safety policies, and other programs and initiatives.
    • Other duties as required.

    While we are willing to train the right candidate, most successful candidates possess the following:

    • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school system or program is preferred
    • Minimum of two years of experience in a bakery environment.
    • Enrolled in or have completed at least the first year of the Baking Apprenticeship Program.

    • Excellent listening skills and communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to work under pressure while always maintaining a professional image.
    • Working independently with little direct supervision.
    • Have a well-balanced concern for both tasks and people.
    • Have a genuine concern for the needs of customers.
    • Ability to delegate duties and responsibilities

    Working conditions

    • Required to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Required at times to work with challenging customers and/or situations.
    • Exposed to hot, cold, and dusty environments.
    • Regular exposure to flour and other baking ingredients, including nuts

    Physical requirements

    • Ability to lift 50 lbs. consistently
    • Long periods of standing and walking
    • Frequent bending and twisting
    • Occasionally pushing and pulling of heavy carts around bakery
    • Occasionally work in coolers and freezers for short periods of time
