Under the direction of the Store Director, the Bakery Manager manages work schedules, assignments, training and the productivity of the employees. Ensures that customers receive friendly and efficient service. Head/Lead Bakery Clerk also unloads, receives, prices, merchandises, inventories and orders products and/supplies. Ensures the quality/freshness of the products. Ensures proper pricing for the bakery products. Provides samples of products to the customers. Proactively maintains the appearance of the Deli department.
Essential job functions:
  1. Manages, directs and guides the Bakery employees to meet department goals. Coaches, motivates and trains staff to provide the highest level of service. Responsible for the supervision of all employees in the department including scheduling, performance management, training and development. Ensures timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff. Ensures the department procedures and production schedules are followed.
  2. Provides friendly and courteous service to the customers. Accurately and efficiently prepares orders for the customers. Provides personalized service to each customer. Stays abreast of store specials and sales/marketing promotions to better service the customer. Maintains knowledge of the various products in the Bakery. Answers and responds to the customer's questions, inquiries and special requests. Provides samples to customers. Conducts suggestive selling to the customers.
  3. Merchandises, inventories and orders deli products. Prices and stocks deli products. Meets sales, costs and profit goals. Knows and enforces the regulations and standards regarding the handling of food products as enforced by a government agency and/or by the Company.
  4. Orders, receives, checks, inventories, unpacks and stores bakery products. Prices and stocks bakery products. Ensures the freshness of the products by monitoring the code dates. Inventories and accurately records any spoilage, transfer, etc.
  5. Operates all equipment in the Bakery Department to prepare the various bakery products. Prepares and/or mixes products for baking. Decorates finished products. Must be able to work under extreme temperatures (hot ovens and freezers).
  6. Ensures the appearance of the Deli Department meets all government and Company standards. Ensures all displays and equipment are clean, well maintained and operate correctly. Cleans the department as necessary.
  7. Pursues professional developmental opportunities and contributes to the Corporate goals.
  8. Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements:
1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be able to read and write at a high school competency level.
2. Work Experience: 1-2 years Deli experience or a Journeyman Deli Clerk. 1 year supervisory and/or leadership experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of Deli Department operations. 1 year customer service and food handling experience.
3. Work Hours: Be available to work various days and shifts. Some overtime hours may be required.
4. Other Requirements:
• Proven ability to converse in English on a one-to-one basis.
• Ability to read, and comprehend department guidelines and procedures. Ability to write in clear and understandable manner.
• Ability to read and understand recipes and measuring quantities.
• Must be at least 18 years of age upon employment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to push/pull up to 300 lbs with equipment assistance.
• Must be able to visually recognize, hear, acknowledge and converse with a supervisor, co-worker, or customer at a reasonable distance with a corrective and/or supplemental aid if needed.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks.
