Backup Administrator Jobs in Michigan (NOW HIRING)

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Network & Systems Administrator to join our growing team. You will manage, maintain, troubleshoot, and support client and internal network infrastructure, servers, virtualization platforms, cloud services, and security technologies.

This role suits a hands-on professional who enjoys solving problems across a variety of technologies and supporting multiple client environments. You will work both remotely and on-site, take ownership of technical issues end to end, and communicate directly with clients — often people who are not technical and need a clear explanation rather than a jargon-heavy one.

•       Employment type: Full-time

•       Location: Belmont, Michigan

•       Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, on-call rotation

Key Responsibilities

Network infrastructure

•       Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VPNs, and related network equipment.

•       Diagnose connectivity and performance issues, and identify root causes rather than applying repeat fixes.

Servers, virtualization, and cloud

•       Administer Windows Server environments, workstations, and related systems across client and internal networks.

•       Manage and support virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V.

•       Support Microsoft 365 and Azure, including user accounts, permissions, licensing, and tenant configuration.

Security and endpoint management

•       Support endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication, access controls, and related security technologies.

•       Assist with security assessments, remediation work, and client-facing security recommendations.

Backup, monitoring, and maintenance

•       Perform system monitoring, patching, upgrades, and routine preventative maintenance.

•       Manage backup and disaster recovery systems, including verification and restore testing.

Projects, documentation, and client support

•       Lead and assist with migrations, infrastructure deployments, upgrades, and technology implementations.

•       Install and configure network, server, workstation, and related hardware.

•       Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, procedures, and client environment documentation.

•       Provide technical support and escalation assistance to end users and clients.

•       Coordinate with vendors when specialized support or services are required.

•       Manage multiple projects and competing client priorities with clear communication and reliable follow-through.

Required Qualifications

•       Two to four years of hands-on experience in network administration, systems administration, or a similar IT infrastructure role.

•       Practical troubleshooting experience with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, and wireless networking.

•       Experience administering Windows Server and Microsoft 365.

•       Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical clients, in person and in writing.

•       Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requests, and follow through without close supervision.

•       Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to client sites.

Preferred Qualifications

•       Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.

•       Working knowledge of Azure and other cloud-based systems and services.

•       Experience designing, managing, or testing backup and disaster recovery systems.

•       Experience with endpoint management and endpoint security platforms.

•       Hands-on experience with UniFi, Cisco, Fortinet, or comparable networking platforms.

•       Previous experience in an MSP or multi-client IT environment.

•       Familiarity with access control, video surveillance, or low-voltage infrastructure.

•       A habit of documenting work clearly enough that a colleague can pick it up cold.

Certifications

Preferred but not required.

•       CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+

•       Microsoft certifications such as MS-102 or AZ-104

•       Vendor certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Fortinet NSE, or Ubiquiti UEWA

•       Other relevant networking, systems, cloud, or security certifications

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

•       Participation in an on-call rotation

•       Occasional after-hours and weekend work for maintenance windows, cutovers, and emergency response.

•       Regular travel to client sites throughout West Michigan.

•       Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

•       Ability to work in server rooms, on ladders when installing or servicing equipment.

•       Employment is contingent on a background check.

Compensation and Benefits

•       $45,000 to $75,000 per year depending on experience and certifications.
