Job description

Position Summary...At Walmart, the future of retail is being built behind the scenes as much as it is on the sales floor. As Director, Product Management – Backroom & Connected Building, you will lead the strategy, vision, and execution for a portfolio of products that power how goods flow through our stores and clubs and how our buildings operate as intelligent, connected environments.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of retail operations at global scale. You will oversee product teams responsible for Receiving, Backroom Operations, Connected Store, and Connected Building capabilities, transforming how associates work, how inventory moves, and how technology enables safer, more efficient, and more sustainable operations.
Working at the intersection of product innovation, AI, IoT, automation, and retail operations, you will define multi-year strategies, drive measurable business outcomes, and lead the development of platforms and experiences used across thousands of Walmart locations worldwide. What you'll do...
Define the Future of Connected Retail Operations
  • Establish and communicate a compelling vision for Walmart's Backroom and Connected Building product portfolio.
  • Create and execute multi-year product strategies that align customer needs, operational priorities, and emerging technologies.
  • Drive innovation across receiving, inventory movement, asset monitoring, facility intelligence, energy optimization, and connected operations.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI, automation, IoT, computer vision, and predictive analytics to improve operational performance and associate experiences.
Lead Customer-Centered Product Innovation
  • Build deep understanding of associates, operators, facility teams, and business stakeholders through research, field engagement, and data-driven insights.
  • Champion discovery practices that uncover high-value opportunities and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Ensure teams focus on solving meaningful customer and business problems with measurable outcomes rather than feature delivery alone.
  • Develop frameworks for prioritization, opportunity sizing, and outcome measurement across the portfolio.
Drive Product Excellence and Business Impact
  • Own product strategy and roadmap execution across multiple product domains and teams.
  • Balance business value, customer experience, technical feasibility, operational complexity, and speed-to-market.
  • Lead decisions around platform investments, product architecture, build-versus-buy evaluations, and ecosystem partnerships.
  • Establish rigorous product operating mechanisms, including launch readiness, value realization, adoption measurement, and continuous improvement.
Harness Data and AI to Accelerate Outcomes
  • Define portfolio-level success metrics and ensure robust measurement frameworks are in place.
  • Promote experimentation, telemetry, and analytics-driven decision making across teams.
  • Drive adoption of AI-powered capabilities both within products and throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Translate complex operational and financial data into actionable product insights and strategic recommendations.
Influence Across the Enterprise
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Design, Operations, Supply Chain, Store Operations, Real Estate, Facilities, and Executive Leadership teams.
  • Build alignment around strategic priorities, investment decisions, and roadmap commitments.
  • Navigate complex organizational environments and drive execution through influence, collaboration, and clear communication.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought leader on the future of retail operations technology.
Build and Develop Exceptional Teams
  • Lead, inspire, and develop high-performing product management teams.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and growth opportunities.
  • Coach leaders and product managers on strategy development, customer discovery, product execution, and stakeholder management.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning.
What You'll Bring...
Leadership & Product Expertise
  • Significant experience leading product organizations responsible for large-scale enterprise, operations, platform, or retail technology products.
  • Proven success defining product vision, developing long-term strategies, and delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience managing complex product portfolios spanning multiple teams and stakeholders.
Strategic Thinking & Execution
  • Ability to connect customer needs, operational challenges, technology opportunities, and financial outcomes into clear product strategies.
  • Strong business acumen with experience evaluating tradeoffs, investment decisions, and value realization.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute in highly complex, cross-functional environments.
Data, Technology & Innovation
  • Deep appreciation for data-driven product management and experimentation.
  • Experience leveraging AI, machine learning, analytics, automation, IoT, or connected-device ecosystems to solve business problems.
  • Ability to translate emerging technologies into scalable business value.
People Leadership
  • Proven track record of building, developing, and retaining top product talent.
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and organizational leadership skills.
  • Ability to inspire teams through change, ambiguity, and growth.
Why This Role Matters
Every day, millions of products move through Walmart's stores and clubs. Every minute, our buildings generate data that can improve efficiency, sustainability, and associate productivity.
