Description
SNA International seeks a bright, collaborative Histology Technician with a strong work ethic and five (5) years of experience working in a histology laboratory to join the team at Armed Forces Medical Examiner's System in Dover, DE. SNA International's team works together in pursuit of the same cause: build a safe and just world by empowering organizations in the use of forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence.
***This is a 100% onsite position in Dover, DE
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • The contractor will provide a qualified histology technician with at least five (5) years of histological experience and capable in performing all of the duties/responsibilities of a histology technician.
  • Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to policies and procedures to include at a minimum:
  • Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
  • Ensure proper tissue processing.
  • Embed processed tissue in paraffin.
  • Perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
  • Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
  • Perform cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
  • Differentiate acceptable and unacceptable processing, embedding, cutting and staining of tissue specimens.
  • May be required to cut frozen sections on a cryostat.
  • Ability to prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures.
  • Adhere to laboratory's QC policies and documents all QC activities; has the ability to recognize outliers and correct them.
  • Perform filing of finished blocks and slides.
  • Perform filing of paperwork.
  • May be required to dispose of signed out tissue.
  • Maintain Histology laboratory and meet all AFMES accreditation standards.
  • Or other Histological duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Proven track record as a current or former histology technician with at least five (5) years of histological experience and a proven record in all activities performed in a histology laboratory.
  • Knowledge and experience in filing techniques; administrative typing; preparing and editing technical or general documentation using various software packages such as the Microsoft Suite including Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Windows.
  • Experience in the transcription of documents, data entry, and preparing and editing management support documentation.
  • Possess the understanding of the difference in processing acceptable and unacceptable embedding, cutting and staining of tissues specimens.
  • Candidates must be US citizens and able to pass a NAC-I Security Background Investigation.
