Job description

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician will perform preventative maintenance, repairs, machine overhauls, equipment installations, inspections, services, and general cleaning on facility equipment and systems in a fast-paced production environment.

This posting may be filled as either aMechanical Maintenanceor anElectrical Maintenancedepending on candidate qualifications and plant needs.

2nd and 3rd shift availability required

Core Responsibilities (All Maintenance)

  • Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and serive on machines in a fast-paced production-focused facility.
  • Works during plant shutdowns which typically occur on weekends and holidays.
  • Installs new equipment or moves current equipment to facilitate production efficiency.
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Orders and installs replacement parts for machine.
  • Identifies the root causes ofunexpected machine breakdowns.
  • Repairs machines quickly and effieciently to minimize downtime.
  • Prepare reports documenting work performed.
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Assists outside contractors as needed for special projects.
  • Uses computers to create work orders, order parts, monitor systems, submit reports, accurately record time confirmations, and check email. Primary programs include Microsoft Office Suite, Indusoft, and SAP.

Maintenance Mechanic - Additional Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing and reinstalling components as necessary.
  • Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
  • Repairs or replaces mechanical components such as bearings, belts, chains, and gear assemblies.
  • Performs mechanical troubleshooting on production equipment.
  • Assists with mechanical overhauls and machine rebuilds.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Electrical Maintenance - Additional Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical components and control systems on production equipment.
  • Performs electrical inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Diagnoses issues related to motors, sensors, drives, PLCs, and control panels.
  • Installs, wires, and tests new electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Maintains electrical schematics and documentation for equipment repairs and installations.
  • Ensures compliance with electrical safety standards and lockout/tagout procecures.
  • Strong electrical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn PLC systems, robotic programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to bend and install conduit, or willingness to learn.
  • Identify equipment voltage (120V-24,900V) and place systems in an electrically safe condition.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Travel requirements

  • Minimal travel is required for this position.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Previous industrial maintenance experience or electrical maintenance experience preferred.
  • Previous welding/fabricating/plumbing/pipefitting experience preferred.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn required.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience preferred.

Analytical skills

  • Must have a strong analytical background with great problem-solving skills.

Problem Solving & Decision Making Ability

  • Must be able to efficiently troubleshoot equipment failures and determine appropriate repair timeline to production.

Language & Communication Skills

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills.

Planning & Organizational Skills

  • Must have ability to work as a member of a team or independently.

Math-Reading-Reasoning Skills and Ability

  • Must have a strong understanding of bluepring or schematics reading and tape measure reading.

Certificates, Registrations

  • Attend trainings and webinars to lear and stay current in the field.
  • Ability to obtain certifications as required. (i.e. welding, crane, backflow preventer, hydraulic)

Equipment Used

  • Basic hand tools.
  • Battery powered / electric / air tools.
  • Saws, drills, grinders, torches, welders, pipe threaders.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, overhead hoist.
  • Various electrical testing equipment (Electrical Maintenance).

Work Environment

  • Ability to work on elevated work structures while wearing appropriate PPE to include aerial lift platforms and cat walks.
  • Ability to work in and around dirty/dusty locations while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Ability to work inside confined spaces while using appropriate PPE.
  • Potential exposure to extreme heat during summer months and when near molten iron and hot castings.
  • Potential exposure to extreme cold during winter months if working outside.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding production focused environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot various electrical equipment (Electrical Maintenance).

Additional Information

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Able to climb stairs/ladders, ben, stretch, push, pull, pinch, kneel, and move as needed to perform duties.
  • Must be able to visually inspect parts and machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
