What is a backend full stack engineer?

A Backend Full Stack Engineer is a software developer who specializes in building and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs of an application, while also having proficiency in front-end technologies. They are capable of working on both the backend and frontend parts of web applications, allowing them to develop end-to-end features and ensure seamless integration between the client and server sides. This role requires strong knowledge of programming languages such as JavaScript (Node.js), Python, or Java, as well as familiarity with databases, server architectures, and various web frameworks. Backend Full Stack Engineers often collaborate with designers, frontend developers, and other stakeholders to deliver complete and functional products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a backend full stack engineer?

To thrive as a Backend Full Stack Engineer, you need strong proficiency in server-side languages (such as Node.js, Python, or Java), database management, and a solid understanding of front-end technologies, usually supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with frameworks (like Express, Django, or Spring), version control systems (like Git), and cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure) is typically required. Effective problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help you collaborate across disciplines and deliver robust solutions. These skills ensure scalable, maintainable applications and seamless integration between backend and frontend systems, which are critical for organizational success.

How does a backend full stack engineer typically collaborate with frontend developers and other team members?

They are responsible for building and maintaining server-side logic and APIs, ensuring data flows efficiently between the backend and frontend. Effective communication is essential, as they must align backend functionality with frontend requirements and participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and troubleshooting sessions. This collaborative environment fosters learning and often provides opportunities to contribute across the tech stack, enhancing both technical and interpersonal skills.

Agentic Full Stack Engineer II

Golden Analytics Bellevue, WA Onsite Full-time

About Golden Analytics

Golden Analytics is an AI-native business intelligence platform built for data teams tired of the tradeoffs in today's tools. It pairs the depth of self-service analytics with the accessibility of a modern design tool, and adds AI that augments how analysts work instead of getting in the way.

About the Role

As an Agentic Full Stack Engineer II, you will own critical user experiences from end to end. You will build the AI-powered features customers interact with every day, including data preparation, analysis, storytelling, and sharing, and integrate Golden Analytics into the systems that help customers work, such as collaboration, notifications, and purchasing. This is not a hand-off-specs-and-wait role: you will talk to customers in the morning, build in the afternoon, and ship by evening, using coding agents to move faster.

What You'll Do
  • Build AI-native data analysis, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Build smart data preparation and enrichment.
  • Build natural language interfaces for analytics.
  • Build real-time collaboration tools.
  • Build analytics-to-automation workflows.
  • Integrate Golden Analytics into customer systems: collaboration, notifications, and purchasing.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering, with the real-world judgment of a mid-career engineer.
  • Strong full-stack development across Vite, TypeScript, React, Postgres, Lovable, and Supabase, with React and TypeScript firmly in your toolkit.
  • Experience building with AI and ML technologies (LLMs, vector databases, coding agents).
  • A track record shipping customer-facing products at user-forward, product-led companies in the Canva or Figma mold, not back-office infrastructure.
  • Product thinking and design sensibility, with comfort in ambiguity and rapid iteration.
Compensation and Benefits

$130,000-$200,000, plus equity. Work directly with founders and customers at a well-funded startup, shaping product and culture. In-person in Bellevue, WA, with relocation considered for exceptional candidates. H-1B visa transfers are supported; the company is not sponsoring new H-1B visas at this time.

How to Apply

To apply for this role, you must create an account on provn.co and submit all required application artifacts. Resume only applications may be considered, but candidates who complete a full application are reviewed with priority.

How hiring works here

Referrals are king for getting an interview. But what if you don't have a referral? Applying with Provn is designed to help you get more interviews. Instead of sending a cold resume into an ATS and waiting, you will complete a challenge built by Golden Analytics and submit a short video walking through your approach. No time limit. No timers. No restrictions on AI usage. Show how you build with AI.

Why that works in your favor:

  • You show how you actually build and ship with coding agents, instead of hoping a resume communicates your skill clearly.
  • Your judgment with AI becomes visible, which no "proficient with AI coding agents" resume bullet can prove.
  • One challenge puts you in front of the engineering team, scored on the work. Priority without a referral!

The hiring manager reviews every completed submission, and strongest candidates go straight to an interview round. No referral needed. Performance over pedigree. Proof over polish.

For this role, the challenge is a significant part of your candidacy. If you have been looking for a foot in the door, a chance to show what you can do, if you have ever felt like all you needed was ten minutes with the hiring manager to prove yourself, this is that opportunity.
