Job Title: High School Math & ELA Intervention Tutor (Tier 2 Academic Supports)

Position Type: Full time (35-40 hours per week) via edustaff

Location: Washtenaw International High School and Middle Academy, 105 N. Mansfield Road, Ypsilanti, MI 48197   

Start Date: August 2026 


About the Position

Washtenaw International High School and Middle Academy is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Middle School Math & ELA Tutor to provide academic intervention supports for students in grades 9-12. This full-time role focuses on small-group instruction, targeted skill-building, and progress monitoring to help students meet grade-level standards in both mathematics and English Language Arts. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting diverse learners, collaborative in nature, and committed to creating a positive and engaging learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted Tier 2 interventions in Math and ELA to small groups of high school students.


  • Provide focused small group and one-on-one instruction on foundational skills, remediation, and academic growth.


  • Use data from assessments, teacher referrals, and progress monitoring tools to design and adjust intervention plans.


  • Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and support staff to align intervention strategies with the core curriculum.


  • Implement evidence-based instructional strategies, including scaffolding, explicit instruction, and formative assessments.


  • Support students in building academic confidence, study habits, and problem-solving strategies.


  • Participate in professional development related to intervention strategies and instructional best practices.


  • Communicate with families regarding student progress as needed.


  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture where all students feel respected and supported.



Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate's degree or higher; Bachelor's degree preferred.


  • Experience working with middle school students in academic settings.


  • Content knowledge in Math and ELA at the 68 grade levels.


  • Ability to implement structured intervention programs and follow data-informed instructional practices.


  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.


Preferred:

  • Teaching certification (completed or in progress) in secondary, Math, ELA, or related field.


  • Experience with tutoring in ELA and math 


  • Experience supporting diverse learners, including multilingual students and students with IEPs or 504 Plans.



Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time, school-year position (typically MondayFriday).


  • Compensation: $20/hour via edustaff 


  • Follows the school district calendar.
