Job Description
Under the supervision of the Branch Director, the Fitness Director develops, plans, organizes, implements, supervises and evaluates all youth and adult physical and health enhancement programs, corporate fitness activities, staff development, program area maintenance and performs other related duties of the Franklin County Family Y. Providing a safe environment for all patrons is high priority.
Qualifications
1. CPR, First Aid, AED, prior to employment.
2. Degree in exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college. Master's degree in
exercise science, or a related field from an accredited college or university a plus.
3. At least three years' experience in the delivery side of a fitness field (personal training, group
exercise instruction).
4. National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA
Foundations of Group Exercise certification, or other specialty areas a plus.
5. Hires will have 60-90 days to enroll and complete relevant certifications.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Develop, implement and oversee all Fitness and Wellness Programs for every department that reflect the community's needs and maintain the YMCA's high standards of quality, safety and character development.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate, fitness floor staff, personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and volunteers as programs dictate and budget guidelines allow.
Integrate a comprehensive health, wellness and membership approach in all programs for children, youth, teens, adults, and special populations.
Must understand the relationship of the general public, including Group/Corporate memberships to Fitness and Wellness Programs and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
Develop and implement annual budgets for assigned program and membership areas, and manage agreed upon budgets within operating guidelines.
Responsible for program enrollment, retention, evaluation, payment records, and reporting of records to the Branch Director.
Oversee all purchases and maintain department related supplies within budget guidelines and maintain a clean and safe program area.
Participate in staff meetings, Board of Director meetings, and professional training as appropriate.
Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA's mission and goals.
Act as a role model and incorporate character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into the daily operation of the fitness department.
Assume other duties deemed necessary by supervisor.
