Position Announcement
Utah Valley University invites applications from engaging and student-focused educators to contribute to its dynamic science curriculum. This role offers the opportunity to teach foundational courses in geology, oceanography, and meteorology while helping students build scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. Adjunct instructors in this position design and deliver instruction using a variety of methods-ranging from lectures and demonstrations to interactive discussions and hands-on learning-creating a supportive environment that fosters curiosity and academic growth.
This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about teaching and committed to student success. In addition to developing course materials and assessing learning outcomes, faculty serve as accessible mentors through student consultations and active participation in the academic community. At UVU, you will have the opportunity to shape meaningful learning experiences, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to a student-centered institution that values teaching excellence and continuous improvement.
Summary of Responsibilities
  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course assigned; possibly including Introduction to Geology, Introduction to Geology Lab, Introduction to Oceanography, Introduction to Oceanography Lab, and Introduction to Meteorology.
  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in the classroom through demonstration, discussion, visual aid, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods. Evaluates instructional materials, including course outlines, syllabi, exams, visual aids, and study guides as necessary.
  • Is available for student consultation and attends faculty meetings as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Geology or a closely related area and one year of teaching or closely related professional experience.
OR
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in Geology or a closely related area and two years of teaching or closely related professional experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of appropriate course material of classes taught.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision making skills.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate student course work and classroom performance.
