Middle School CTE Agricultural Teacher

Position Purpose

• Under the general supervision of the CTE Director, Agricultural Teacher will develop students' understanding of animal science, agriculture principles, and sustainable farming practices. This role involves fostering skills in animal husbandry, veterinary science, and critical thinking, preparing students for careers in agriculture and related industries.

Essential Functions

• Develops and administers a CTE Agricultural Science curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Creates lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into engaging, hands-on learning experiences that challenge students and maximize instructional time.
• Teaches topics such as animal anatomy and physiology, nutrition, genetics, breeding, animal health, and farm management.
• Promotes students' understanding of animal science, livestock production, and the impact of agricultural practices on the environment and society.
• Encourages critical thinking about agricultural practices, animal welfare, and the ethical implications of food production.
• Develops students' problem-solving skills, technical proficiency, and capacity to conduct experiments and manage animal care projects.
• Promotes students' ability to evaluate and use various agricultural tools, technologies, and equipment effectively and safely.
• Conducts ongoing assessments of student learning and progress, adapting instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including those with special needs.
• Continuously acquires professional knowledge and stays updated on current developments in agricultural science and education by attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings.
• Organizes and maintains accurate records of student performance, grading, and attendance in compliance with district procedures and applicable laws.
• Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Ensures that student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining a conducive learning environment.
• Coordinates with other professional staff, participates in faculty meetings and committees, and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional materials and resources, maintaining inventory records.

Additional Duties

• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

• Utilizes standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, and telephones, as well as specialized agricultural tools and equipment.

Travel Requirements

• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Expertise in animal science, veterinary practices, and agricultural principles.
• Understanding of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
• Familiarity with applicable federal and state education laws and regulations.
• Proficiency with computer network systems and software applications.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
• Strong communication skills for engaging with students and parents.
• Commitment to self-evaluation and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and the school community.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

• Works in standard office and school building environments, as well as on agricultural sites.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License:

• Tennessee State Certification as a CTE Agricultural Science Teacher or willing to obtain appropriate endorsement.
• Relevant industry certifications preferred.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the ability to provide own transportation.
• Endorsement Codes: 048 - Vocational Agriculture 7-12, 150 - Agricultural Education 6-12, 448 - Agriculture Education 7-12, 950 - (PSE) 9-12 Agrigultural Education

Education:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, agricultural science, animal science, or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.

Experience:

• Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
• Relevant industry experience in animal science or agricultural field required.
