Job description

Thrive Education Partners is seeking an exceptional science educator to provide specialized science instruction for two siblings in 4th and 6th grade who participate in a hybrid homeschool program. This is a unique opportunity for a knowledgeable, engaging educator who loves science and can bring it to life through thoughtful instruction, hands-on exploration, and meaningful academic depth.

The educator will work with both students for approximately four hours each Friday, supplementing their existing homeschool curriculum with science instruction designed specifically for their ages, abilities, and interests.

The ideal candidate brings both strong intellectual and academic ability and an engaging, dynamic personality. This family places a high value on curiosity, critical thinking, and depth of knowledge. Both parents are accomplished scientists and are looking for an educator who can do more than facilitate activities-they want someone who genuinely understands science, can answer thoughtful questions, and can challenge their children to think deeply about the world around them.

What You'll Do
  • Provide approximately four hours of science instruction each Friday for two students in 4th and 6th grade.
  • Design meaningful, age-appropriate science instruction that complements and expands upon the students' existing hybrid homeschool curriculum.
  • Create a thoughtful combination of direct teaching, hands-on experiments, project-based learning, scientific inquiry, and real-world application.
  • Introduce scientific concepts with enough depth to challenge curious, capable learners while keeping instruction engaging and accessible.
  • Differentiate instruction for two students at different developmental and academic levels.
  • Create opportunities for the siblings to learn collaboratively while also providing individualized challenge and support when appropriate.
  • Encourage students to ask questions, develop hypotheses, investigate ideas, analyze results, and think critically about scientific concepts.
  • Build connections between science and the students' everyday lives, interests, current events, and the natural world.
  • Develop projects, experiments, and longer-term investigations that allow students to apply what they are learning.
  • Communicate thoughtfully and professionally with the family and Thrive's educational team about learning goals, progress, and areas of interest.

  • Is organized, prepared, dependable, and able to take ownership of planning a consistent weekly science experience.
  • Values collaboration with highly engaged parents and is comfortable discussing curriculum, scientific concepts, and student learning with a family that has a strong science background.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Science, Science Education, Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, Education, or a related field.
  • Advanced coursework or a degree in a scientific field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a science teacher, homeschool educator, enrichment instructor, gifted educator, or private educator.
  • Experience developing hands-on experiments, inquiry-based lessons, and project-based learning experiences.
  • Experience working with advanced, gifted, or highly curious learners is a plus.
  • Strong content knowledge across multiple areas of science is highly valued.
