Job description

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily accounting operations for a portfolio of senior housing communities
  • Manage the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financial statements
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Analyze operating results and investigate budget-to-actual variances
  • Ensure general ledger accuracy and GAAP compliance
  • Prepare and review financial reports for the Director of Finance and Executive Directors
  • Maintain fixed asset and depreciation records
  • Supervise, coach, and develop Staff Accountants and Financial Coordinators
  • Balance workloads, support cross‑training, recruitment, onboarding, and professional development
  • Oversee accounting activities for multiple affordable housing communities
  • Monitor reserves, escrow accounts, restricted cash, bank reconciliations, and cash management
  • Coordinate management fee calculations and intercompany transactions
  • Coordinate annual financial statement and compliance audits
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests
  • Ensure compliance with HUD, LIHTC, MassHousing, DHCD, and nonprofit reporting requirements
  • Support surplus cash calculations, reserve draw requests, and regulatory financial reporting
  • Assist with budgets, forecasting, and long‑term financial planning
  • Improve accounting processes, internal controls, systems, policies, and procedures
  • Build relationships with community leadership, corporate departments, vendors, and residents
  • Communicate financial information clearly to financial and non‑financial stakeholders
  • Participate in special projects, system implementations, organisational initiatives, and strategic priorities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Five to seven years of progressive accounting experience
  • Two or more years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with nonprofit, healthcare, affordable housing, real estate, or property accounting strongly preferred
  • Experience with HUD, LIHTC, or other affordable housing programs preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
