Job description

Chalkline, Inc. is seeking a capable and detail-oriented DevOps / Cloud Engineer to support and strengthen our Microsoft Azure infrastructure and SQL Server environments while improving how we deploy and maintain our applications in both cloud and customer-hosted installations.

This role is responsible for maintaining the reliability and performance of production systems, improving upgrade and deployment processes, strengthening disaster recovery readiness, and ensuring our database environments remain stable and well optimized. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, anticipates issues before they become problems, and approaches infrastructure with discipline and precision.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and support Azure-based services including App Services, Azure SQL, Storage, Networking, and Azure Front Door.
  • Administer and optimize SQL Server environments, including performance tuning, indexing strategies, backup validation, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Monitor system health and proactively address performance and reliability concerns.
  • Manage application deployments and version upgrades across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Improve and document release, upgrade, and rollback procedures for both cloud-hosted and customer-hosted installations.
  • Support disaster recovery processes, including restoration testing and documentation updates.
  • Maintain application monitoring and alerting using Application Insights.
  • Support identity integrations using Microsoft Entra ID and Auth0.
  • Assist with patching, configuration management, and general platform hardening.
  • Support Windows-based customer deployments and installers.
  • Maintain clear and accurate operational documentation.
  • Assist with annual security audits and compliance documentation (SOC 2).

Qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or DevOps support.
  • Solid hands-on experience administering Microsoft Azure services in production environments. Experience with Azure Government Cloud is a plus.
  • Strong SQL Server administration experience, including performance tuning, maintenance planning, backup and recovery strategy, and troubleshooting production issues.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with Git/GitHub for version control and source management.
  • Working experience with Visual Studio in a development or build-support capacity.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining Windows-based applications or services.
  • Ability to independently diagnose infrastructure and database performance issues.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
