This is a full-time position working out of our Champaign, IL location. Working hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. This position reports into our office in Champaign, IL location. Local candidates preferred. However, we are considering hybrid/remote work arrangements.

Typical pay for this position is $100,000-$125,000 annually. The final offer for this position will be based on the unique experience and qualifications of the candidate selected. This position may also be eligible for a bonus not included in the base pay range.

The Data Engineer is responsible for supporting the Horizon’s data pipeline and Data Lake environments. This role is a hands-on role that collaborates with business stakeholders to deliver support and solutions in support of the business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline processes and increase efficiency.
  • Design, develop, and optimize ETL/ELT processes using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Data Bricks. or similar tools to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources into data stores (data lake, data warehouse, SQL server).
  • Maintain Azure Data Factory pipelines
  • Build and maintain Databrick scripts and Python scripts to load and transform data.
  • Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions for data extraction, aggregation, and performance tuning on curated data.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, design data models, and ensure solutions meet business needs for reporting and analytics.
  • Implement data quality checks, governance, and monitoring to maintain accuracy and reliability of data pipelines.
  • Optimize data models and queries for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Support migration or integration of legacy systems into modern Microsoft BI environments.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices related to data governance and technical advancements.
  • Create and support Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards, connecting to models or direct data sources for interactive visualizations.
  • Learn and maintain new technologies related to data integration and transformation.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures related to data security and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Git fundamentals, agile development and CI/CD practices
  • Understanding of business operations in distribution, wholesale, retail and 1P and 3PL business
    models.
  • Knowledge of cloud technology design patterns, security concepts, database management, and
    data pipelines.
  • Experience with Azure data services; Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Services,
    Databricks, and Fabric is a plus
  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering or software development with a focus on data
  • Proficient in SQL and Python for developing data workflows and transformations
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, software engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Awareness of and the ability to use a wide variety of software solutions and tools to affect
    change.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical information in non-technical
    terms.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task. Awareness of and the ability to use
    a wide variety of software solutions.
  • Project management and teamwork skills.
